TEEN RAILFAN PLACE- LETS TALK TRAINS !

  • Why has everyone stopped comin' in???[%-)]
  • Just Busy Chris. Being Saturday(at least I think, working on little sleep sometimes make's my internal calendar get off), you should see traffic pick up over the weekend.

The Wisconsin and Southern railroad is running an employee appreciation train this weekend, from Madison To Devils lake. I'm going to go photograph it today.

Pictures will follow when I get back tonight or tomorrow.

  • Good luck with that Noah, I am also off railfanning, the UP![:D]

I have photographed UP rock trains going thru Devils Lake, it is one beatiful photo location. I am goind there later this fall when the trees chnge colors, and am going to hike up the bluffs to get a shot of the train hugging the hills... Should be great![:D]

I just entered a Montana Rail Link photo contest in hope o making thier calendar. Gosh, I hope I make the cut!

    Up AC4400

    Freight cars.

Just run of the mill Union Pacific trains... But trains none the less[:D]
  • Chris, Devils Lake is okay to shoot if you have a good zoom, but otherwise it's not great if you ask me. I stuck with Merrimac and Okee, but near Lake WI and the Wisconsin River.

And do you mean trainweb.com, or Freewebs.com? Freewebs can be nice, but you are limited to only 50 photos and 7 pages unless you pay. If you just want to have a place to host your photos, I recommend www.railimages.com They are pretty good. The only condition is that you can only host railroad photos, but after a while you can usually sneak in one or two non railroad photos, but don't make a habit of it. Give it a try and see what you think, I like it.

I'm in the process of trying to get myself a new website at www.geocities.com to try them out, but I need Java before I can edit a page. And with my dial up, the download is way too big.

  • My dad has a long lense I can use, and he wants these photos BAD, as he is modeling Devil's Lake on his home layout. I am not sure where I am modeling, and I may have to go generic. I own UP, BN, and MRL equipment, and can't find a location with all of those railroads...

About trainweb.com, do they require any money or personal info???
  • I just changed this place's name, as the old one was getting annoying. Hope you guys like the new name better. Or, I would like suggestions on what the name should be.

I like the fact that there are a few regulars here and would like to maintain this kind of coffe-house froum[:)]

What do you all think. do you like the Idea of a teen railfan cokke house thing[?]

    Any thoughts would be great[^]
  • Well, I stop here every time I come to the forums anyway, so we might as well as make this a regular thing.

trainwebs.com I don't know anything about. I do know though that you have to have a HTML uploading software, and that isn't standard on most computers that I know of. I'd give www.freewebs.com a try if you want a true website, and www.railimages.com if all you want is an album.

Your Dad is modeling Devils Lake, huh? I'd like to see some photos of the layout sometime. And if you ever need photos of some of the stuff there, let me know, as I get there a few times a year and can put it on my list of things to do. I have a few photos already, although not many. Mainly just of the Wig Wag signals there at the one crossing. Does he Model the modern operator, the Wisconsin Southern or the former owner, the CNW?

  • Okay, heres some info on te trains I see. I'm on the CP mainline, so about 20-30 trains a day, mostly AC4400s with a few SD90s and the occasionad SD40-2, but with a cement turn every 2 days, and a gas turn every few days, both with 3 GP38-2s.
I think I'll start frequenting this.

oh, my dad models CNW in the 50s, he likes steam engines,

    Thnks for stoppin' by
  • i have a question do yall think a kodak easyshare cx7300 would be good for taking pictures of trains in motion. this is the camera i've currently own.

  • Chris, yeah, please do keep me updated here, I'm really curious know.

the 50's CNW would have been the high time for the line. Lots of Freights, the 400 passenger train, a great time all around.

Is he modeling just Devils Lake, or is he doing Merrimac or Baraboo too?
