Bad wheels discovered on Amtrak dineing car

  • On August 21, 2005, I was returning home to San Diego, after riding the
Santa Fe Southern Railroad, on Amtrak #3 the west bound Southwest Chief. In
Albuquerque, New Mexico bad wheels where discovered on the dineing car.
So the dining car was switched out, so every body got free boxes of Kentucky
fried chicken in Gallop, New Mexico. After switching out the dinning car and
loading the boxes of fried chicken in Gallop, New Mexico it reselted in the
Amtrak Southwest Chief running 3 hours late. I made the connection with the
Amtrak superliner in Fullerton to San Diego with 3 minutes to spare. Amtrak
should refund all ticket prices for the passengers on the Southwest Chief,
that day. Slightly east of the Lamy, New Mexico Amtrak Station, there is a nice
looking private railroad car. Does anyone know anthing about it?

  • Too many times, the late arrival of Amtrak trains is through no fault of Amtrak. The discovery of the defective wheel on the Dining Car shows that Amtrak's mechanical inspections of the cars, even enroute, is thorough and focused on the safety of the passengers and crew. The decision to stop and pick up food from a local KFC to compensate for the removal of the Dining Car was made for the benefit of the passengers, so noone would go hungry. They also make provisions and refunds for missed connections, so I don't understand why you'd want a refund on a trip that was completed. A refund on the missed connection I could understand.
