Does anyone have first-hand knowledge or have ever seen the phenomenom known as The Maco Railroad Light? According to legend, an Atlantic Coast Line passenger train was rolling through Maco, North Carolina in 1867. Suddenly, part of the train came uncoupled. As the rear of the train started rolling backward, the conductor, Joe Baldwin, ran to the rear platform with his lantern. As another train approached, he frantically waved his lantern, trying to get the train to stop. Well, it didn't, and it crashed into Joe's train. They found his headless body near the tracks, and the lantern was standing upright, still lit. Shortly thereafter, people reported seeing a light at night in the area of the crash. Many reputable witnesses have seen the light through the years, including President Grover Cleveland. The Army even staked out the area to investigate. They saw the light, but could not find it's cause. I was just wondering if anyone lives near the area who can verify this story.
