Wall Mounted Layout

  • Just moved in to a new house. Selected it because of it's potential of room-to-room above the doors layout. Considering 3/8 plywood and 32 inch radius in the corners. But plywood looks ugly unless stained and trimmed. Would like layout to sizzle, like it was MEANT to be there from the beginning, like Mahoganny trim, and embedded lights below, and such. Will be using DCC and running dual tracks, with 11 3/4 inch backgrounds from layout to ceiling.

Has anyone else built a wall mounted layout that can give me some tips on how best to support and secure the layout, as well as make the layout look like a fine piece of furniture instead of a toy. How best to light buildings, and room track lights from the base of the shelf, etc.

Oh, no wife to contend with here. This is my soon-to-be retirement project.

  • Read in the last month issue of Model Railroader about using steel and this month's about how to get a musem quality layout. A lot of good tips there. Haven't built yet just dreaming, so far.
