Friday Photo Fun

  • Today was a good photo-op day for me. Several pics.

Looks to be an OLD SCL gondola, no patches or anything. Very dirty. Close-up on roadname/roadnumber.

One of your typical, run-of-the-mill EX-Conrail patched-for-NYC/CSX gondolas.

Hmm...weird. I didn't know it was the 20th Century. Looks to be a Penn Central patched for Penn Cetral. ***The smudge under the patch is a drop of rain on the windshield.*** Close-up on PC patch.

Old, old gondola patched for CSXT.

ACL? You gotta be kidding me.

    Close-up on ACL lettering. Spray-paint?

    Both gondolas, proudly rusting away...together.

    Conrail ballast hopper. (Not patched...[?])

Chessie C&O ballast hopper. Another un-patched rarity brought to you by uspscsx.

Close up on CSX lettering/logo on gondola.

    Close-up trucks shot.

The Fruehauf(Spelling?)decal on the PC gondola.

No tresspassing on railroad property was commited during these photo-shootings.

  • Nice job! I'm jealous; I do most of my shooting west of Chicago and never get a Chessie. Howd'ja get such nice shots without RR trespass? Long lens?

Judging by the lines and the vegetation I assume these photos were taken in the East somewhere??

Thanks[:I]. Chessies are sort of a rarity here.

Well, it's not an aftermarket lens, but it is pretty long, for a digital camera. There is a hill where the ACL and CSXT gondola are, and it is not RR property. I believe it is city property. The place where the other gons were taken runs right beside of a parking lot, so virtually you can touch the cars without setting a foot on RR property. I actually found an old (week or two old) bad order shop card. The track is, by the way, "the bad order line."

    Yeah, they were...

  • I've seen a few B & O and C & O hoppers go through Sykesville, Maryland, but I have no pictures, unfortunately.

  • You usually see GONX or CSXT gondolas that have that paint. I balieve that they are former RailGon gondolas. The silver CSX coal (bathtub) cars are pretty uncommon on CSX but are still cool! ACLs are just downright gone. So on ranking from 1 to 10, I give you a 45, because not only are these rare, they're good pictures.[swg]

    [#ditto]
Yes. I nearly flipped when I saw it. That is the first ACL I have ever seen.
