Have any of you gotten any good deals off eBay lately?

I wont say that I have gotten "Good deals" except a occasional grab when no one is awake at 3 in the morning on a monday to out bid me. I snagged a Riverossi Heisler in this way for about 90.00 instead of $300 to $400 my LHS was asking for the exact same unit.

That was two years ago. The sad part is the LHS has one of these I think somewhere still with that large price tag on it. Lonely and unwanted on the shelf it sits.

That is what I call a good deal. I think 340.00 for a Riverossi 2-6-6-6 that is in mint condition and equippted with DCC a very good deal.

It depends on what the market will carry.

Ebay is a place where I look for OOP items. Once in a while a really good deal comes along. But prices mostly are very close to retail and sometimes way over retail with shipping bordering on outrageous. That is the environment I see on ebay.

I guess it depends on how you define "good deals". If you mean a "steal" price-wise, I think nowadays they are rare. Most sellers today on eBay are too wise for that. If you mean finding an item that you've not been able to find anywhere else and not having to sell your first born to buy it, well that's another matter.

I decided to collect the Lionel LRRC Western Union set about 2-3 cars into the series, so have had to use eBay and a few other sources to get the ones I missed. To me those cars were "good deals". I didn't pay more than 20% over the original price (some are listed for as much as 600% over the original) and I got what I wanted. Good deal for me.

I also picked up a 10 year old Lionel item for what I felt was a very good and fair price. Again, I got what I wanted and within my budget.

IMO, if you're patient, do your homeowrk and stay within a budget, eBay can be a very good source for some train items.

I think you would be surprised at what deals you can get on ebay- especially in the summer months. RR related item sales usually slump when summer hits and lots of good deals are there. The ebay marketplace is not what it used to be- now , it seems, many people view it as an online garage sale. There are many reputable sellers on ebay offering great deals with great customer service. You just gotta do your homework amd find out who they are [;)]
