Trackside with Erik and Mike, Vol. 31: May 16, 2005

  • Green BN SD40-2's are common. So are the UP C40-8's! Wow, do I sound like Railpictures or what?! I went with Mikes because it seems more dramatic.

  • I really liked the way the diagonals on the nose were reflected in the mown fields.[:)]
  • Some of your camera settings are a little different from what I normally would choose using the Manual Mode. Are either of these photos shot with "automatic" mode?
  • I voted Mike's, I can clearly see the jointed rail double track and also see the entire well mixed train, I like the fact that train scenes can still look like this in the year 2005.

Erik's in this case is very nice but just a little too cute for me, but still very nice.
  • I am bnsf nut love the golf course keep it up Erik.
  • Both pix are great, I think, but I voted for Mike's.

He made excellent use of 800-speed (virtual) film, with the result that a moving freight train seemed to "pose" for him--and in its entirety!

I especially liked the way he achieved a neutral-sky background yet allowed the loco's headlights to be prominent, without dominating.

  • BOTH WERE GOOD HOWEVER,
ERICKS WERE MORE CREATIVE. I DONT GO BY THE RAILROAD LIKE OTHER GUYS, I GO BY THE NEATNESS, EFFORT, and CREATIVITY.

SO I VOTED FOR ERIKS. IF I COULD SPLIT MY VOTE I WOULD LIKE THIS

  • Both shots were great, but I went with the UP head on. Even though it is a wedgie, I think the way it was timed to get some contrast with the background and the cars was neat.
  • Erik's picture rocks!
  • I like Mike's shot best because it shows the whole train, and the tracks and road bed.
