WHICH MANUFACTURER DO YOU LIKE ?

  • I like all of them, but EMD is my favorite. Alco is a close second on my list though.
Yes we call it the Dinky. Why? Well cause it's dinky! Proud to be the official train geek of Princeton University!
  • To tell you the truth i have not had to answer this question in a while and usually i would answer with GE but i went with EMD. Though still to this day I prefer the cab of a GE loco over a EMD loco, GE cabs seem to be more organizedand neater... Maybe its just me, but anywas for my favorite loco it would be the SD40-2 because those are the locos i always had when i would get rides with my grandpa.. Today i like the SD70ACe.
  • ALCO is the best. The PA series was the best out of all.

  • I don't think you can beat the styling of the E & F series, as a brit in my mind they are the classic american loco.
  • Any Alco will do. Never saw many of them in person, only on shortlines or at museums. After that, any 1st or 2nd generation diesel will do. I've been to several steam operations and they are fun to see in person as well.
  • I like Alco FAs, look rugged with that "squared off" nose and bulky body. But those GE 70 ton diesels are a close second. Just my thoughts.

  • EMD, hands down.
  • I cast my vote for Alco. Favorite domestic models would be C424, C420 and FPA4. Favorite export models would be the DL500C (the World Locomotive) and the DL535, a 1200 HP C-C road switcher found in the Yukon, India and elsewhere.

Although not listed on this poll, I also like Boise/MPI and Railpower Technologies (Green Goats).
The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul
  • My favorite is the EMD SD45-2. What a workhorse and wow does it sound good at full throttle!
  • i love all ALCos. They were (and are still)the best sounding engines. I have only seen 8 ALCos 2 C420s, 3 PAs, A and B units, one RS11, and 2 RS3s. I love the I think i can, i think i can if i don't throw a rod sound of the prime mover. Every ALCo has a place in my heart. That sounds weird doesn't it?

I personally like the rebuilt ex-Conrail SD40-2's CSX now owns. It seems as if they were built from an SD45-2.

    Ahh, here's a photo:
