Trackside with Erik and Mike, Vol. 29: April 18, 2005

  • Mike, if you had used your photo that is seen on the WSOR site, then I would have voted for your picture. The photo on the WSOR site gives you a great view of the matched E units. The nose on shot that you used for the voting does not give the voters an adequate view of those locomotives. Yes, including the location sign was a nice touch but I feel that nose on shots do not do justice to a train - its hard to tell that there are business coaches behind the locomotives. While the lighting may not have been ideal, Erik's angled shot allows the voters to truly see the entire business train. Since I believe that the goal of this week's contest was to shot a business train, I think Erik's picture better met that goal and therefore won my vote. In summary, a nose shot is great to show off the nose of a locomotive but an angled shot allows for the viewing of the entire train and that was what this contest was all about.
  • Went with Mike's shot, you don't see many of those. UP is everywhere, good shot, but not as interesting. . . at least to me
  • Agree with several of the responses, the WSOR website shot is the best of the bunch. I'm a farm boy so the farm buildings in the background helped my opinion.
  • Americana all the way WSOR takes the vote this time.
"There is nothing in life that compares with running a locomotive at 80-plus mph with the windows open, the traction motors screaming, the air horns fighting the rush of incoming air to make any sound at all, automobiles on adjacent highways trying and failing to catch up with you, and the unmistakable presence of raw power. You ride with fear in the pit of your stomach knowing you do not really have control of this beast." - D.C. Battle [Trains 10/2002 issue, p74.]
  • I liked Mike's heads up shot of the WOS E units best although both were good.
  • If I could have voted for both, I would have. They were both great shots. Mike's won out , strictly because it showed E units. As already said I too wish I could have seen more of the train
  • Went with Erik's! Both are nice!
  • Small town, jointed rail, Covered wagon : Great shot, Mike!
