Trackside with Erik and Mike, Vol. 29: April 18, 2005

  • I voted for mikes picture. Sometimes a little nostalgia is what we need.
  • I liked the WOS E units, but the one on the web site is even better. Th UP E units may have gotten my vote, but I would need somthing more special to vote for the UP.
    The 3985 maybe.
  • If you would have but the WSOR website picture up there you would have had it hands down.
  • This is a tough call. Two great photos.

I will have to agree with everyone else, a full train really does work. Erik has my vote, even though I see enough UP on NS. ;)
  • Nothing like a heads up shot of an F unit. Mike caught it beautifully. Erik's shot is ok but I'm sick and tired of UP.
  • I had to check out Mike's WSOR website shot - it was my favorite - then his submitted one, then Eric's. The WSOR website shot would be slightly better if some movement could be detected.
I enjoy your work - it keeps me returning to the Trains email.

  • I went with Mike's photo. Only one suggestion... Next time move the camera over 4 inches to avoid cutting off that cool station board. I missed that UP Biz train by about a half hour out here in Central Iowa. Oh well.
  • I agree with lennyfries about the fact that erik included the consist, but both photos are great. Nice job guys!
  • Finally something that isn't UP or BNSF. W&S over UP any day of the week.
  • I like Erik's, but Mike has my vote, The saukville sign coupled with the WS looks like something from an old movie, kind of a chilling nostalgic effect.

  • Mike gets my vote, but I agree with MPCollins--the Wisconsin & Southern web site photo is a must see!
  • the UP is a nice train.. the WSOR is a nice photo... there is demonstrated interest and depth in the WSOR photo...and the UP photo is kinda flat. if the WSOR actually had the full sign in it it could probably win a whole additional point or two.
  • I like Mike's photo because I like the engines.---except,--- it needs to be silver , red, and yellow and have Santa Fe on the nose![:D]

  • I had to go with Erik's photo. Just seeing any passanger cars back on the old CNW line between Chicago and Clinton gets me fired up. Plus the picture is near De Kalb Illinois, home of the fighting Huskies of Northern Illinois University! Seriously, I liked seeing all the cars of the business train.

  • both great shots, had to go with Mike's cause I much prefer old EMD units and when you enlarge it you can see the consist, sort of. The big new GE unit kinda looks out of place in front of the old yellow varnish.
