GE side panels

  • I'm new here, and please forgive me if this question has been brought up before.
What common malady or maintinence practice is the cause of those often mismatched panels on the left side of many GE locos.
I've seen photo's of every one of the big roads doing this.
    Ruins the whole paint job.
    Thanks,
    Jimmy

  • Wrecks, broken doors, whatever is spare is just used and the RR's dont care about paint jobs.
  • paint is paint... they dont care...only ones that realy care about paint are people like you...if they could get away with out painting them at all they would..but paint is a rust blocker... so you have to paint it to keep it from rusting away in a few years...

It's the heating and air conditioning unit, they are regularly exchanged.
