Hi,
I'm fairly new to scale collecting and need some help please. I recently acquired a UP 2-8-8-0 Mallet in O scale. Looks pretty right, but I've been told that it isn't 1/48 scale but O gauge (semi scale) I'm not how much this source really knows. Is there a collector out there who can tell me if "Right of Way " imported semi scale brass and could this be one. Many thanks

Right-of-Way made full scale brass engines for the 3 rail market. They followed closely on the heels of Williams with respect to importing 3 rail scale brass articulated engines. Willams brought the first 3 rail UP Challenger into the U.S. and Right-of-Way introduced their model of the C&O 2-6-6-2 shortly thereafter. The Right-of-Way engines were made in Korea - sans motors and then the final assembly and testing was done at the company plant in Akron, Ohio. They introduced a number of 3-rail brass engines, which, by today's standards, are pretty plain and bereft of additional details.
They are probably best know for their articulated Pennsy T-1 and their final model which was the C&O 2-6-6-6. While the articulation of the Pennsy engine was not prototypical, the engine itself, along with all of their other offerings, was built to scale.
