Trackside with Erik and Mike, Vol. 23: January 17, 2005

  • Both are great but I went with Mike. I like seeing the whole train with the single loco pulling it.
  • Awesome shot of the loco coming out of the snow.
  • Sorry Mike, but Erik's Photo just looks awesome comimg straight at you like that. Anyway both of you have a good year and I will keep on reading your Column. Thanks Phil
  • I like Mike's " train Shot -NS black & white still the coolest locomotives. Lots of power with 1 loco pulling a full train.[8D]
  • Mike's shot is superior to Erik's; the only thing I wonder about his shot is if the perspective is correct (tilted train). Erik's shot suffers greatly from the lack of dynamic range; the dark areas are greatly under-esposed. Futher, Erik's shot looks like it was way over-sharpened.
  • That shot is a beauty, Erik. I can almost feel the blast of snowy wind that hit you. Nice color, lights, and signals too.
  • BNSF - yum yum and what a shot that is - commin right at ya.
Nice Erik and Mike yours is nice to, it's just not BNSF, sorry.
  • Erik's is the best for this go around, I enjoy snow shots as this is what I do in Montana on the Helena Division of the Montana Rail Link Railroad coming over McDonald Pass at 5,868 ft on snowly days when I am working out in the field shooting for different folks.
  • I preferred Eric's shot even though I would have liked to have seen some of the cars following, (a slight side angle and more light on the engine.)

    Al Cornelius
  • I voted for Mike as I prefer seeing the train. Mike's was a good action shot, but as I said previously I prefer seeing more of the train.
  • I just love the winter shots, the more snow, the better. And then the train coming straight at you [me]. Real cool!
  • Maybe just being a NS fan, and having a similar engine on my layout prompted me to vote for Mike's photo. Ya gotta envy anybody with mainline tracks in their back yard !
Erik's photo is also great. Hard to choose.

  • I voted for Erik's photo, sorry again Mike. I normally do not like the "head on" shots, but with the snow "a flying" it was too hard not to notice this photo. GREAT shot Erik!!! Both of you keep up the GREAT job!

  • WHAT'S BETTER THAN A CHIEF IN WAR BONNET RIGHT IN YOUR FACE? SWIRLING POWDER TELLS YOU ABOUT THE TEMPERATURE AND THE NATURE OF RAIL TRANSPORT; THE SHOW MUST GO ON!
  • Pictures taken in snow have always a special magic. Esspecially, if the snow gets swirled up like in this picture. Awesome!
