Canadian Pacific SD40-2B's,and SD40-2FB's

  • In the 1990's CP rail converted a few SD40-2's into B units by plating over the cab windows. I also heard of a few CP rail "red barn" SD40-2F Cowls who were to be transformed into SD40-2FB's.[:I]the idea was abandoned after the idea that the units could be more flexible if they were A units! The units were likeley to be converted because they had poor rearview visibility even with the infamous "Draper Taper" cowl.CN owned a few ex.BC hydro ones that were sold to CP as SD40B-2's(CN name) they found them "imcompatible with the CN units" 5398 is an example of an ex.CN SD40-2B.

[?]do you have any Photos? I know that the 1970's(pre Q-fan) ones are hidden in the series 5700 to 5799. And the post '80's SD40-2's are in the series 6000-6099 hidden and the ex.SOU ones are in the series 5475-5485.
I am talking about the low hoods!
  • Most (if not all) of these were sold to NREX a month or two ago.
