Lionel remote switches

  • I have heard that an item appeared in a magazine in the past year regarding replacing the light bulb in the Lionel remote switch with an LED lamp which burned cooler. Has anyone seen that item and can tell me where it is or what it said??? These are old (40+ yrs) switches and I would like cooler bulbs that will work with close to 17 volts applied. I could probably even go with a replacement bulb in area of 20 to 30 volts. Do not need anything very bright.

  • Hi TheRedistributor,

The article you are referring to was in OGR Magazine. Another way to do it is to drill open the hole in the top of the lamp cover to ¼ dia. and also use 24 volt bulbs.
