Anyone know the story on why ATSF sold their PA/PB set that became famous
for the blue warbonnet paint. - Delaware? SP apparently ran theirs a long time
into bloody nose paint.

As an aside, there are LL E8A/B painted into Black Widow.... was this ever real?

Thought SP had only the single set of E8A/B and it was in Daylight for the Oregon run.

In 1967 Santa Fe sold 4 PAs to the Delaware & Hudson.ATSF was retiring their PAs and the D&H was looking for passenger units.
Southern Pacific only had 1 E8. They did have E7s and E9s.In 1959 SP was looking for a new paint scheme to replace the Daylight scheme.They painted a couple of E9s into Black Widow as an experiment.They also painted some units in black with an orange nose.This was nicknamed the Halloween scheme.This was rejected and SP adopted the current red and gray scheme.

Forgot about the E9A/B, and experimental paint. I think of E8 and E9 as the same loco, but the E7 is another style. It is odd to see E9A/B in BW paint.
