HO Scale locomotives

Can anyone tell me where I might find information on replacement of motors in older style HO locomotives? I have some older lionel, Rivarossi, Gilbert and Athearn locomotives that are still in running order but I know that eventually the motors will have to be replaced. Also are there any publications on the subject of HO locomotive replacement.

You might have to go through the Company's of your model brands.
Check their web sites and go to parts Dept.

Most of those motors are three pole clunkers. there have been many articles in the mags regarding remotoring. If yorru RIvarossi is a steam engine it is tough. The diesels are easily modernized by getting a can motor and gluing it in place. You put down a bed of silicon caulk and press the motor into it being sure to keep the shafts alligned with the centerline of the drive train.
