Erik's pic looked like a computer game simulation picture, ie no contest. This is the best part of the online weekly.
Maybe the guys at the model mag could do a digital layout experiance once a month.

Hello to you all.
This time it was a hard choise. Eric's picture is great, nice colors unusuall background (at least for me), but I voted for Mike's. His picture brings back memories. Nice afternoon, sweet gold colors, soft wind on your face and the sun goes down. You hear nothing but the wind and then the sound of the locos, the roar of the train as it goes by and then the sound dies at the distance. Finally its you and the wind again. Congrafulations Mike, you made me drop everything and run to the rails

Erik's photo is excellent; it's very well composed. However, I voted for Mike's photo due to its content, because I don't get too excited over switchers/shifters and there's no action portrayed in Erik's shot, as evidenced by the guy on the platform steps. He looks like he's asleep. Both Erik and Mike are good photographers, tho'.

Both are great shots with a good feel for the working railroad. I was slightly swayed though by Erik's juxtaposition of dramatic urban skyscape and the mundane switcher.

Erics photo was wonderful, something new. Mikes shot, no offense, looked like 3000 other pictures. I also have a soft spot for switchers.

Hey Mike, Union Pacific at it's best with simple old non nonsense workhorse. Erik's photo will probably get the win and is good, but, I am still partial to armour yellow and harbormist gray and it gets the vote.

Both are great shots, but Eric's was so unusual that it got my vote.

Mikes was a great shot...but rather run-of-the-mill when compared to Eric's.

BTW...I dislike the BNSF color scheme (except for the red and silver version that seems to be in the process of disappearing).

Great shot of the SW. UP has never been my interest, and now since they killed SP and DRGW, like them even less!

Compositionally I prefered Eric's shot - but it's fuzzy. Mike's is also quite good and I voted for it for technical, over compositional, reasons. Both photos show what I want to see - the railroading environment. The man on the switcher in Eric's photo is terrific. If only the shot weren't rushed . .

eric's pic was good and i voted for it, but I did not like the fact that a worker was in the shot sitting on the steps, trains in motion are much more interesting too.

too hard to decide.i guess the engine traveling betwen the bldgs ,but they all in focus and look great,havent had a layout since i was 16 need a house with more space.I mean i dont want to train to go in a circle on 4( 4by8) i want the train to take some time before it gets back to where it started..............this site keeps my dream alive................we all can dream..cant wait to lay my fist piece of track down buddy bear aka william 51, tyler,texas email: [e-mail]
