CAD Drawings of Type E Coupler

  • I'm part of a team working on redesigning the rail car coupler. I'm having a hard time finding any computer aided designs of the coupler....... or dimensions. The basic dimensions of the coupler are out there but does anyone know where I can get the dimensions of the knuckles arcs and the thrower/ locks dimensions.

    Thanks,

  • Do you have access to the coupler? Reverse engineering with something like Autodesk 123D Catch sounds like the best option here. There are other options out there with active laser or similar options which would work better if you have a budget to spend on them.

  • Contact any of the manufacturers of the knuckle.  You will need to know a bit more about knuckles before you ask,  mainly if you are looking for drawings for a Grade E or F knuckle, or tightlock design.   There are numerous manufactures of standard AAR Grade E or F knuckles.
