I'd suggest you try Googling "Milwaukee Road "Silk Trains". That will get you started to a number of references. You could also try "CPR Silk Trains" for other references. During the early part of the 20th century super-fast special silk trains ran from Vancouver and Seattle to eastern U.S. and Canada, carrying multi million cargos of perishable raw silk for the fashion industry. Typically these trains, made up of made for the purpose box cars, had priority over all other traffic, carried armed guards and often ran in closely spaced bunches ( 30 minutes apart (presumably carrying a freighter load of silk).

  • I know I read an article about silk trains many years ago. I don't know if it mentioned the Millwaukee. I'm pretty sure it was in Trains Magazine although it could have been in Railroad Magazine.

I did a search on the on both the "index of magazines" and on a magazine index I have loaded on my computer and did not find it [:(] This has happened before with articles that I know exist and evenytually found after coming up with the right search words. I've noticed that sometimes the most logical and obvious search words find nothing. This is more often true of the "index of magazines" than the index on my computer[V]

Hopefully some other "old tymer" will know fow to find it.

I tried to sell my two cents worth, but no one would give me a plug nickel for it.

I don't have a leg to stand on.
