Hello the last f40c run on the west line om monady 7/26/2004 this is a sad day for chicago railfans it was number 611 it came into cus from a trip on the west line and thats was it there took it to western av to meet up with it others to rip this kind of suck that no one know about it and no last trip on it and metra will find out ween all the mps are in the shop geting fix and there wont have the f40c to run well this is a sad thing to write [:(]

Let me see now, the "F" means cowled carbody, the 40 means the four oh series, C means this EMD beast is a six-axled, so where are the pics? acj.

I found out these units are going on bid. So I guess they will be sold.

Save your tears the F40C's are not dead! As you probably know only 15 of this model were ever built by EMD and all went into service on METRA. 12 of these units are being rebuilt by VMV at Paducah into HELM freight locomotives for lease to the Kansas City Southern. These units will ease a power shortage until the thirty SD40ACE's which the KCS has on order from EMD are delivered beginning in late 2005. The F40C rebuilds will be run as the middle engine of a three unit lashup by the KCS. I hope to post pics when they appear on the KCS scene.
