its open week ends june to october ,go to www.ebtrr.com this should help you. ben ----of -----penna.[:)]
  • I will be in Sault Lake city in the first week of Aug. I would like to visit the site where the last spike was driven near there ,can anyone tell me if the reanactment is around that time?
  • Well, yes and no - Not in the sense of making a big vacation/excursion to see something new.
But, fortunately, living in the SF bay Area, there's still a lot that I and the boys can do - we've already planned a day trip to the Sacramento Rail Museum ( on Amtrak ). Also working on scheduling to get back to the Niles Canyon Scenic RY -maybe rent a caboose or the 'Skunk' railcar for my boys and a few their friends; depends on how things shake out with what my ex- has going on this summer w/the boys....the NIles run has become almost a summer tradition; sure hope we can keep it going this year.

Also there's the Roaring Camp and Big Trees in Felton - we're gonna stay in Santa Cruz, and take the 'beach train' (diesel-pulled) from there to Felton ( narrow-guage steam) and back. to catch the 'Day out w/Thomas' - my youngest can't get enough of him....and Percy....and James.... and Gordon.... and Duck... some of y'all know what I mean ( chuckle)

Also thinking about going up to Portola to the WP museum - never been before. If you've been, would you suggest it??

    Thanks for any input,

    Mike
sweet lady fair, where C:\Documents and Settings\mikea\Desktop\WORK\Readi II\locomo1.gif[ hast thou gone??
  • I voted maybe, as my wife and I are going to Europe this summer. We plan quite a few train trips on well run and frequent national trains. Sorry we have to take the bus in England, they are cheaper than trains. But we might run across a tourist train and if I whine a little we might ride it.
  • I am fortunate to hit quite a few tourist railroads in the Eastern Pa., Western NJ. area. Steamtown, Wannamaker,Kempton, & Southern, Strasburg, New Hope & Ivyland...the list is fairly long. This year is a little extra special because of the Belvidere & Delaware running a doodlebug and steam excursions all summer long along the Delaware river.I consider myself very lucky to be able to visit these operations every year at least once.
  • Yes.

  • One Grandfather was a Fireman and Engineer in Durango, Chama, and Alamosa the other a machinist in Alamosa. The Narrow Guage Branch of the Fourth Division calls me home every summer.
  • Just returned from Alaska. Alaska railroad booked out itinery including hotels and events so we could see just what we wanted. Great peaple. I saw a strange looking truck on one of the cars and close examination revealed it was made by Dawue in Korea. An inquiry of the conductor revealed the entire car was made in Korea. Highly recommend Alaska Railroad.
  • My wife and I have a cab ride on the Royal Gorge Route in July. Can't wait! We also took a ride on the Grand Traverse Diner Train for our Anniversery in May. Lots of fun and good food.[:P][dinner]
  • For some of you in North CA, do not forget the Western Railway Museum at Suisun City. Great interurban cars and trolleys. Cars under going repair(rebuild) and some in operation. A loop and some country operation on old Sacramento Northern right of way if I remember right. Even some steam not operational. Info in the 2004 Trains Guide to Rec Railroading.
Fred in N. Carolina. Raised in north SF bay area.
  • Every good rail fan MUST make at least one journey a year if not more.
  • I never travel without Kalmbach's Tourist Trains and Hot Spots books and the SPV RR Atlases for the areas I'll be in. I've been to more than half the places listed in the Hot Spots book.
  • I don't know if it qualifies, but I enjoy visiting the trolley museum in Washington PA. As I recall, they have a (working) Baldwin VO switcher...plus the trolleys are fun, too.
