Freights on Northeast Corridor

I have haeard that there are freights on Amtrak's Northeast Corridor. Are there really? And if so, what railroad operates them, what kind of operations are they, and what type of locomotives haul them?

Might wanna re-try this question in the trains mag forum, you'll probably get lots of great answers there, most people don't venture into this area.

Local freight service along the Northeast corridor is provided by Conrail shared asset areas. Yeah it is still around owned by CSX and NS. They also handle switching in Oak Island, Philadelphia and Detroit. Who knows for how much longer.

It did say in this months RailPace that all the NS operations in Northern NJ that use to be Conrails are all going to be taken over by CSX. So maybe it will only be CSX doing the freight on the NEC soon.

You never heard of freights on the corridor. ive seen them a lot. they are ran from what i can tell CSX CONRAIL CN and NORFOLK SOUTHERN. its all to do with where on the corridor you are.

Yesterday when I was railfaning this subject was brought up. They said that a while back (in the 1970's or 1980's) that there where tons of freights on the NEC, but a bad derailment happened with one freight and after that there isnt as many freights as there use to be. Thats the reason they made the CSX /NS Lehigh Line. In other words the CSX/NS Lehigh Line is like the NEC for freights. But there is still freights on the NEC, mostly locals.
