Wonders what is the chances that maybe Classic Trains or whatever, could post some f them old stories by the likes of E.S.Dillenger, James Earp ( one of my favs cause hes an old Rock Island Con) and many of the others that had stories.
Andy S if you read this, who did the ones you based the N scale layout on? I cant find that issue and in the pulps I have here at my house I cant find the right articles. Its driving me nuts.
Also thanks Andy, your mention of these books got me hooked! Now on to read more of " The Harvey House Girl" By E.S.D!
Yes we are on time but this is yesterdays train
I think the one you are referring to is the N gauge model of the division point yard at Oldburg. That was used quite often by E.S.Dillenger. At one time he worked for the Frisco and Oldburg was based on Newburg, MO.
I agree it would be nice to run the old stories. My local hobby shop sells items on consignment. They had a collection of Railroad Magazines beginning with the late 1930s going into the 1950s. For about a year everytime I went there I came home with a bunch of old magazines.
One other thing about reading those old magazines, there are letters and stories from railroaders recalling how it was in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Jeff
I love them for the letters as well. Its neat to see rails discussing how things were.I had one from 1915 that is in storage somewhere ( i really have to fix that problem.)it has a ton of great stories from working rails.
Kinda funny also is the international engine picture club. One of the magazines I just got off ebay has a story from a locomotive engineer who got to check out another roads power at a roundhouse. He said due in part to his internation engine picture club pin!Now lets see a shop foreman do that today lol.
Carstens is the publisher who bought the old Railroad magazine. They did rerun some fiction stories a few years ago in 6-12 issues of Railfan & Railroad magazine during an anniversary year.
They would be the most likely magazine to republish the old stories. Don't know the legalese of number of times they can run a story, but it would be nice to see them run a series of paperback books with the stories rerun.
Jay
Well thats a great idea. I have a paperback with an Eddie Sand story that was published a few years ago. I think I picked it up at borders,it was orignially given to troops in WWII in a little kit with other reading materials.
Wouldnt it be great to see a bound book with each one broken down? Hmmmmm.................
