Since you can't do polls in in the Train Simulation Software I'd thought I'd post it it over here.

As much as I like Train Simulator I really like RRT2. Besides strategy I like using the sandbox mode. I can set up tracks and industries where ever I want and run as many train I want. It's almost like railfanning. Once I get it set up I can run 200-300 trains and just sit back and watch. I can run a mixture of Big Boys to GG1s to E8s to Dash 9s, Moguls, Hudsons, Northerns, SDs, GPs. Of course I don't sit still for long, I end up modifying the routes and adding more trains, next thing I know I've congested one area and have to build a bypass, then that gets clogged, especially around those mountain passes. Ah, the vicious cycle of commerce [;)]

When get playing RRT2 Platinum, I can't stop myself. I just keep building and buying and scheduling more trains!! Like ironhorseman said, its like railfanning. I unfortunately have only played a train simulator once-- at a train show, and it was awesome. I hope to someday get one.

Actually I miss the original RRT. You would set up block and could run trains really close together. 2 trains on a double track the same direction. A faster train could actually pass a slower train. If you zoomed out, you could watch the whole system you created like a dispatcher. Divert trains. Had to plan shops to build the locomotives and then get them to the route. No instantly on the track making money. Also, the special cargos that needed to be delivered.

RRT2 beats RRT3 for fun too. You can build truly awesome systems. RRT3 is just a poor trainsim.

If I want to run a trainsim, I fire up MSTS. You really have to get some add-ons to make it more interesting. Ohio Rails is a great free add-on. Well thought out. Steam and deisel. 2 competing routes. Even barge traffic. I also have commercial add-ons for Cajon and Tehachapi. The detail on them is really great.

Whenever I get back to it, Transport Tysoon Deluxe will hook me for weeks at a time. It's an old game, where you connect various industries and manage rail traffic flow at the same time using signalling scemes. It's really hard to find now, but it can be found online now. It's not very graphically intense (almost cartoonish) but the management of routes is really tricky at times (crossing lines).

Train Dispatcher 3 is my favorite computer train game. To me gameplay is the most important aspect of computer games. As for the debacle known as RRT3 all I can say is Major Disappointment!

If there was one out there for the Macintosh, it would get my vote....but us mac people have been left out in the cold. [:(]

I like MS Train Simulator, though I get bored with it after a while. I recieved RR Tycoon 3 for Christmas last year and love it, thought many on these forums have told me that earlier versions are better.

MSTS is fantastic. And Maple Leaf Tracks makes tremendous add-ons. I wear them on the OUTside of my clothes.

I haven't played it in years, but we had RRT2 and it's diesel era expansion kit. IT was a great game, I liked to store old engines as the years progressed and bring them out years later, in "touring" service.

MSFT Train Simulator is the only one I have "played" so I guess it is my favorite. Well I had RR tycoon but it was just boring to me.

Don't know if it is considered a game, but I like Trainz Railroad Simulator. You can do just about anything with it.

You can use some routes that are included , or you can build your own. Also have a web site where you can download new rolling stock , scenery , etc.
