I put cumbres and toltec but if I had a second vote it would probably be the Nevada Northern. I like it because 90% of their equipment is origional(their pullmans aren't I belive, and they recently aquired a couple FM H16-66 from the Army, an SP SD-25maybe?, and a few others that aren't origional) including 3 steam locomotives (1 operational, 1undergoing boiler restoration, 1 currently non operational), two RS-3's, a baldwin VO-1000(or 660), a 100 year old steam rotary snow plow, a steam crane, lots and lots of origional ore cars, two or three electrics(couldn't say who made them), origional coal tower and water tower, all kinds of stuff. It is unlike any tourist railroad I've ever been to. And the tracks still go 100+ miles to the UP mainline in NE Nevada, even if they are overgrown with sagebrush.

I tend to agree with cbq9911a on this one. I think IRM (Illinois Railway Museum) has quite a museum and tourist line. Some of the most infamous locomotives i have ever seen were there. i.e. The Centeniel DD40X or the South Shores Little Joe. Plus the active Union Pacific line nearby offering occasional AutoRack freight from the nearby auto plant at Belvidere.

My favorite is the CP Royal Hudson train ride up in B.C.

I'm goin to have to say my two favorit tourist lines are the New Hope and Ivyland RR and the excellent Strasburg RR.

The Huckleberry Railroad in Michigan was surprisingly authentic. And they let me ride in the way car. That was cool.

The East Broad Top is my favorite tourist line of all. Even though it is not on the list that is my favorite.

CUMBRES AND TOLTEC.
It is a wonderful experience.

I also liked the Heeber Valley RR and Nevada Northern (both friendly, both scenic, and BOTH STEAM!).

Finally, the Three Rivers Rambler in Knoxville, Kentucky is a hidden gem. My ticket cost $15, and I spent 45 minutes, riding a trim but admirable train behind a steam locomotive, with an unbelievably friendly crew (many volunteers); in short, a piece of heaven.

My favorite tourist train is the Georgetown Loop. My family and I had to go again this year since 2004 was the last year of operation.

Hey Gord, I'm blessed to live within a short drive to South Simcoe and also to the Halton County Radial Railway, featuring a fine selection of streetcars, interurbans and work cars in running condition!

In my opinion I like Steamtown. I love the Nickel Plate Berkshire 759 , Canadian Pacific 2317, Canadian National 3254 & Baldwin 0-6-0 Switcher 26 ( right now the Boston and Maine 3713 is being restored to operational condition.
Expected Completion date is 2006 or 2007
