I am looking for a museum where I can take my son to see an articulated train like the challenger. Does anyone know of a museum that has one? Thanks in advance, JA

There are railroad museums (with steam locos) all over the US e.g.

Of the 25 Union Pacific Big Boys made, almost half are in museums, scattered around the country, and there is still an operating Challenger. I had an opportunity two summers ago to see 3985 in action, when it visited the Twin Cities. I'm not a big fan of steam, but I WAS IMPRESSED.

Duluth Minnesota has a railroad museum that features a DM&IR Yellowstone as an animated display.

Mike is right, tell us where you are, and we can tell you where to go to see one.

We are in Indiana, though willing to travel just about anywhere. I received a reply from someone that Steamtown PA has one, and that's fairly close. Though it seams that I am located close to a lot of train action. Thanks all, JA

How about one actually under steam [?] [:D]

Check out the schedule and see if there is anyway you can see it in St. Louis. This might be the closest city to you where it will be.

The B&O roundhouse Museum in Baltimore has a Allegany on display and you can go into the cab of the engine. Chech their web site to see if they are open, the roof caved in under heavy snow last year and I'm not sure if they are still open for business.

The National Museum of Transportation in Kirkwood, MO has a Big Boy UP #4006 and
N & W Y6a #2156. Also quite a collection of other railroad equipment on display. Kirkwood is just outside of St. Louis.

UP Challenger #3977 is stuffed and mounted in Cody Park in North Platte, Nebraska.

I think the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn,Michigan has a C&O 2-6-6-6 Alegehenny.I saw one there back in 1975.I also live in Indiana.
