What modern day loco would you want to see this paint scheme on?

Check this out. http://www.dakotabranch.com/index.php?content=showmdlloco&n_stk_id=24 Found that site on accdent.

Any way, I think a SD80MAC. I also would think a White face loco would look cool in one of those. Or even better, Maybe if BN was still around they baought a BIG fleet of them, and called it the Hustle Mustle 2. That would be cool.

My fave BN paint scheme is the Executive scheme, but the classic green is still good. I agree an SD80 or SD90

I would have to say a SD80 in whiteface would be perfect. Also If you ever get the new SD70ACe that would look great in the whiteface scheme! Tower 55 is making a BN Gevo in whiteface but the BN was an EMD railroad except for the C30's and B30's so it didnt look right to me!

I assume you have no idea what the original Hustle Muscle is....

My answer is any locomotive, being a BN modeler I wish the Burlington Northern was still around. I always thought the cascade green, black, white was a good looking paint scheme. I wish the BNSF would bring it back and just be the plain old BN again.

 Just my thoughts,

The Commuter and Passenger BN Scheme would be best on the new MotivePower MP40s.

OK,

I ordered a KATO undecorated SD80MAC and had a couple of questions for you BN fans.  I am going to be doing a white face scheme and I have found two ways they painted it.  Please tell me if you like #1 or #2.

#1

#2

Thanks for all your help, I have no clue about BN's practices except that they were primarily a EMD railroad.

Thanks,
Andrew

Do you have a date on that original picture?   I noticed the 2nd unit was a C&S.  There are no ditch lights.  So I am guessing this was taken around 1973.

I don't like either.  I've always thought the white face was the worst of the green variations.  I don't think the BN liked it either.  After trying it and the tiger face they were migrating to the executive colors.  A believable modern day BN "protolance" should not carry cascade green but executive colors.  Edit - In fact, now that I think about it, I don't think a believable modern BN would have any EMD SD80s or SD90s.  They had just purchased mass quantities of the SD70s and were happy with them.  I think they would have skipped the SD80-SD90.  Notice the BNSF has doesn't have any.  That means none were on order when the merger happened.

I have no clue about BN's practices except that they were primarily a EMD railroad.
Weren't all railroads from that time (70s & 80s) were primarly EMD railroads?   Alco was gone and GE hadn't really stepped up to the plate.   Everyone was throwing GE orders just to keep a viable competitor for EMD.   I think BN had one of the largest percentage of GE locomotives in their fleet compaired to other contemporary railroads.   Of course, that does remind me of the last coal train I saw being pulled by the cascade green locomotives.  It was five U3xCs.  I remember thinking at the time,"They are going to pull that train to its destination and be run straight off to the scrap yard."

I actually would go with a White face and Stripes. BN only had one of those locos. I forgot what the number was so....OR the executive one would look good. But I would go "retro" and stay with the cascade green as, that's what most (Not saying all) people think of when they hear BN.

Even though BN never owned one, I would like to see that scheme on a P42.

#1. the whiteface is the best scheme in my opinion and would look great on a SD80. The executive was fine but BN had green and white on all locos except the SD70MAC's.

As much as I am a fan of the Green & Black, I never was a fan of the traditional paint job on a wide cab unit. I still think the executive scheme would be outstanding.

It was actually the first production SD45 made by EMD.

Calling something the Hustle Muscle 2 would be ridiculous. It was a name bestowed by the GN, not the BN. BN decided to retain the name after numerous requests from railfans

I knew that. I know BN retained the name, but BN has GN heritage. Would it be nice to have like what UP does? A heritage series. Have it painted up in the old GN paint whit Hustle Muscle.

BTW: Way to go and spoil an idea

Having a BN or even GN Heritage SD80MAC lettered as "Hustle Muscle" or "Hustle Muscle 2" is a great idea. The SD80MAC is essentially a big, modern SD45, using a 20 cylinder 710 engine, like the SD45 used a 20 cylinder 645.

UP didnt introduce 'heritage schemes' out of the goodness of their heart....the exact opposite.  They did it in the middle of a lawsuit so they could copywrite the paint schemes of the railroads that they aquired (and so they could make money off of us Model Railroaders).

Exactly....another reason I have only one yellow engine in my ranks and its going to get GTW lettering if not a complete repaint.

Seems like somebody hasn't been reading their issues of Trains and MRR in the last year or so.

It has been the topic of countless articles. UP's licensing lawsuits, bla, bla, bla. Lawyers defending UP's right to collect royalties from murchandising of UP heritage logos, bla, bla, bla.

Quiz: Remember what Mike Wolfe did?

And supposedly of photographers and railfans in general as well.

The heritage units are as much a good-will offering to railfans as they are a giant message board stating "These Logos Are The Property Of Union Pacific Railroad".
