i need your help...
...with fixing and IHC pacific (4-6-2). one of the drivers on the locomotive has become disconected. there seemed to be a screw or something. it was a moving part and the screw is missing. is there anyone out there with ideas? i am sad because it cost me around $100.
BTW i was planning on selling it.
... and another $30 to fix it - if they have the part.
1) See if IHC has the missing parts,(2) then fix it; or sell @ as-is bargain price. (3) BUY A HEAVY DUTY magnet and see if you can find the missing screw.
SOME importers carry parts, and some don't. It might help if you can find out the size and type screw.
If you are very good with your hands, and have a nice clean workspace with magnifier and tools, you can take a very small nut and bolt/machine screw, really tiny, and pin the rods back together with a nut and bolt. For clearance with other rods nearby, you may have to grind down the head or the bolt some and then add a dab of loctite, or do that first, to keep it from losing its grip.
I had the same thing happen to my IHC Mike, except it was on my repair guy's bench 90 minutes away when it happened...to him. He wasn't sure what he could do with it, so I suggested a machine screw and nut and then filing the side that might interfere with the action of other moving masses nearby. He had it done within 15 minutes...according to him.

i don't know where or when it broke. i took it over to a friends house and used it there (hehehe, it out pulled his Bachmann equipment). because i threw out the box i stuck it in a different box with no packing materials (oops). maybe the rough ride (bouncing in backpack) jarred it loose? it ran totally fine with no derailments.
anyways, i checked IHC's website and there was no parts section. maybe i can ask my dad about selling it on ebay? as for the magnet, that is a good idea although i don't know if its magnetic or not. unfortunatly, i don't have a clean workspace or magnifier. all i have for tools is a bulky 10 or 12-in-1 thing and a small screwdriver set (the screwdrivers are small, not the set). i geuss my best bet wuold be sell it on ebay.

Dont despair. I owned a IHC Pacific also for many years. I dont have it any longer and most certainly would have made some of the bolts availible if it was not so damaged and disposed of.
I live in fear of my steamers throwing a rod rolling down the main and one day that will happen.
Im sure a certain bolt might be found that fits your engine.
Do you have a camera or able to take the picture of the damaged area? No use trying to fix it if we cannot take a look at it.
What do you want for it, I like lost causes right Don. I hate the idea of selling it on E-bay unless you list it as broken.

Does IHC have a repair serives? I had a Bachmann GS-4 that took the leap of death and bent the drive weels. I bought the driver sets and with shipping cost me the same if I had sent them the engine for then to fix.

I'm beginning to think that maybe Pacific's in general have a curse on them...
I've got an N scale Model Power Pacific that the same thing happened to, and though I repaired it and it runs fine, I won't ever trust it enough to leave it running while I step out of the room.

i got it!
i got this idea for a repair. stick a coupler spring in one hole, wind it, attach other rod, and fine tune it. thought of this when thinking "what would fit in the small holes?" and now i know. i still have to try it and i'll respond back if it works. i feel good about trying this. don't worry, i have back up springs. will try from a crawl to highballing.

That is like crazy. Do you have any other scrapped IHC engines that you may get a bolt off of?
