Blueline Locos work on DCC
Posted by Caso.Sub on Monday, May 7, 2007 3:18 PM

Im wondering, if the BLI blue line locos work on DCC, If they do, what needs to happen for DCC, and is the sound dead on the unit?

Thanks

From the Broadway Limited website:

The BlueLine Advantage:

  • Ready-to-Run, Well-Detailed, Durable Locomotives with significantly lower prices.
  • DC Sound-Equipped, DCC Ready.
DCC users can quickly and easily install their favorite DCC decoders into the included plug 'n' play socket. This allows for both sound and operation control of the loco.
  • DC Sound Effects operated with DCMaster Analog Control Module.
  • Electronics & Sound System is Update-Ready via Internet download should future updates be required.
  • Low Start-Voltage, even when operating with Sound in DC
  • Many varieties and Paint Schemes to accommodate smaller Road Names
  • The best sound system in model trains: The most volume and frequency response, playable whistle/horn, numerous idle sounds and automatic sounds and more.

Caso,

As Don pointed out, you can just add (plug in) a decoder to a Blueline locomotive to make it DCC.  Seems like a nice way to do things.

I spoke with BLI this morning on that very topic.  They say just adding a decoder will allow for DCC control of the loco and all functions, including sound.  In the ads, the listed suggested decoders are all basic type four function models.

This is a smart as well as logical approach.  So, of course, I have two on order.

Now if they just have the sound(s) prototypically correct for the unit, and if they make one in a paint scheme I want, all I'll have to do is add a Lenz gold decoder.
