  1. Amtrak EMD SDP40F (not an FP45 clone) pointed and flat nose versions
  2. GE U36B in Seaboard Coast Line (black/yellow and Bi-centennial) and Auto-Train
  3. Amtrak GE P30CH
  4. De-skirted E6, E7, E8 units

*****************************

Good news,

The following are coming soon:

  1. GE U18B units in SCL, Maine Central, NdeM and others
    De-skirted F units
  2. more split scheme offerings for various railroads (a split scheme is a post-merger transition paint scheme where usually quick new lettering and logos are applied to the pre-merger paint)
  3. Athearn is planning to release a FP7 model soon (SOU and CP had more than 20 units; PRR, L&N and ACL purchased over 40 units!)

Carl in Florida - - - - - - - - - - We need an HO Amtrak SDP40F and GE U36B oh wait- We GOT THEM!

SD40 and  -2 's non-dynamic brakes (yes N scale)

Same for GP38's

Kato ran both but needs to re-release.

I know, not exciting as a rare streamer, but its what I want.

IF I had to be really picky and pick a Road it would be GTW and CIM.

About 4/5 of the diesels being requested on this topic can be had with a little judicious kitbashing of existing models.  Rather than complain about what can't be bought off the shelf, wouldn't it make more sense to get out the razor saw and filler putty and go to work?  Yes, it's always a little frightening cutting into that engine on which you've just spent $100+, but shouldn't that just be part of the hobby?

Besides, if Murphy's Law holds true, the best way to get a manufacturer to produce a particular locomotive model is to spend a lot of time 'bashing one for yourself.  Sure enough, about six months after you're done, one of the manufacturers will announce that engine, in your favorite railroad's paint scheme even.

I agree and know that to get what I want in the future, I will do just that and in some respects already have (repaint etc).

The subject line was "What loco would you like to be produced?" and I really didnt see any complaining from anyone....just what they wished.

For me it would have to be Canadian Pacifics 2-10-4 Selkirks. I would love to see it running through my 15 ft. long Rodgers Pass.

It might be an idea to mention scale as well.

The SD60M in both 2 window and 3 window versions was produced by Proto 2000 in HO a couple of years ago - good runners with a realistic top speed.  They are listed as sold out on the Walthers web site though I'm sure they turn up on ebay and can still be found in some stores.

As for the GP39M - These models on BN were rebuilt GP30's or GP35's and retained some of the original carbody - the ex GP30 versions have that distinctive cab profile that only a GP30 had for example.  I know of no ready to run models of these 2 though a experienced modeller could kitbash a model GP30 or GP35 to a more correct version.

I was going to suggest someone like Kato produce an SD 70 ACe as the tower 55 units won't be ready for a while. (BNSF is in the third run to be delivered in early 2008) But it would still be expensive from Kato anyway right? We shall see.

The interesting version of the gp 39 is the E. And even then not all of the 'E's have the features we look for. The other gp 39 rebuilds only have fan reconfigurations ect. But many of the gp 39E units got new EMD cabs, short hoods and grills ect. behind the cab. This is one of the units I have started to kitbash. It will take some time to finish as I have spent my budget on other things. (one of which is another Kato SD 70; damn I love those things) I also started on a gp 20 C which also gets a new cab ect... but not doing much except removing things that don't belong.

Model railroading is fun, but expensive!

In HO for me, in plastic and resonably priced (I can add my own details as required):

GMD-1, both 2 and 3 axle versions.

The big MLW's like the M630, 636 and 640

A good running CP style CLC H-16-44 to go with the LL C Liners and Atlas Tranmaster.  Sorry, the Bachmann one does not quite cut it.

And a nice, small CP steamer like a D-10.

And thanks for asking!

I would like to see a 2-6-6T, Boston & Albany. This was a real workhorse on the former B&A main line, later NYC, now CSX. This was one nice locomotive. I don't know WHY the mfgrs have not picked up on this one, they have plenty of loggers on the market, why not this tank locomotive??

An Alco switcher in N scale.  The Arnold S-2 is long gone.   Preferably something that is DCC ready.

Doesn't any one know how to use the search function?

Obviously no one wants to as we enjoy giving the answers, we all read different books, maybe forum items are the same, always an interesting subject, a world of choice.

Search Functions???  Everyone likes to have their own Post.

Give me some more F units that are super detailed.    We have asked for everything else and do not get them, so More F units.   That always seems to work.

Cheers

To start off I know we all want these items, and after inquiring why tehy are not done I get " well we produce models the MAJORITY wants." Really? then why so many Aberdeen and Rockfish? NYO&W? Dont get me wrong two great little roads but majority modelers? I would think the Santa Fe guys would be able to get what they want in spades!

But seeings you asked what I want. 4-8-4 5000 series Rock Island! And seeings Atheran did the little emd40 how about some Davenport switchers as well! I mean come on you model a loco that had such a small production run as a prototype but to heck with other locos people want? I know breathe deep innnn outtttttt. lol

Plus how about a nice little 4-6-2 commuter RI PLEASE!

Yes we are on time but this is yesterdays train

N scale small DCC installed. Something like Athearn's little 2-8-0. No sound needed, but traction tires and LOTS of pickup wheels. Heavy weight. I know it's a tall order, but it is what is needed.

Not really, just thought this was a most unusual loco. For me, I would like to see in N scale the following gas turbine offered, with Atlas or Kato manufacturing the model:

Given the large number of 4-8-8-4's on the market there must be a demand for huge steam locomotives.  How about a 2-8-8-8-8-2 quadraplex?  Or the 2-10-10-10-10-10-2 quintuplex?  Since the prototype design had a hinged boiler, an HO scale model might even be able to run on 18" curves.

Of course any manufacturer who wants the best return on investment should just make a Santa Fe F7.

Yeah Baby! That's what I'm talking about!  And it has to run on 18" radius curves (in HO scale) and negotiate # 4 switches with ease!Laugh [(-D]

Seriously, I think that what this hobby needs is some like Rail Power Products to make (affordable) locomotive shells that the major manufactures are passing up that can be mounted on existing frames/mechanisms. While I tremble at the though of taking my razor saw to the shell of a $150  Altas or Kato loco, I wouldn't hesitate to hack up a $10 - $15 plastic shell from RPP. That way, it really doesn't matter what loco I would like to see produced by the Big Boys, as I can build what I want myself!

Cheers,

George
