I cannot imagine why you want to know where everybody lives, but if it makes you happy I'll tell you my whereabouts and my reply makes the forum more international too: I live in a little village just 10 miles west of Amsterdam, in a "polder" which means land that used to be an inland sea and was made artificially dry about 150 years ago and is at least 20' below sea level. I never worry about inundations however since Schiphol airport is my neighbour and they will never allow the fourth largest airport in Europe to get inundated. And by the way I never go to Amsterdam, I don't like that city.

I live about 25 miles west of downtown Chicago in small suburb. The (former) Milwaukee Road's west line is two blocks south of me. METRA commuter trains to/from Chicago utilize the line (watching the parade of commuter trains during the evening rush hours is a blast), along with freight traffic. All this double-tracked stretch of line needs to be totally awesome is some Amtrak service thrown in! I'd always be trackside, taking pictures.

But seriously folks...I was born and raised on the South Side of Chicago, but moved to this area back in 1979 so I could buy a house I could afford in a decent area, and then start a family.

HERE, is the small "city" (pop. 10K about) of Peru, IL which is on the Illinois River about 90 miles southwest of Chicago, 60 miles northeast of Peoria. I decided to model a rural area, granger railroad so if I needed to see how something looked or scenery, etc. in the country, I can hop in the car drive about four blocks to the Illinois River Bridge, cross over, and be out in the country in a manner of minutes. Very convenient to my modeling! Now if I could only get a time machine and go back...

Also was able to go to the DuPage County Fairgrounds once a month for the Great Midwest Train Show. THE BEST!!!! Greasy burgers, tons of sellers, some GREAT layouts (Little Q especially), etc... Dad and I used to go out to the White Pines Model Railroad Club in Bensonsville to see their GIGANTIC layout.

Tuxpan, Veracruz, Mexico. On the Gulf Coast, about 500 miles south of the U.S./Mexico border. Nearest operational trains are about 120 miles north in Tampico. Years ago (pre-1960) there were a couple of small narrow gauge lines in the area, primarily industrial in nature) that served the local oil industry. Unfortunately no traces remain today.

I found the replies quite interesting. I live in Neenah Wisconsin, located between Packerland and Brew town. I live 1 and 1/4 miles from a railroad yard known from my child hood as Soo Line and was Wisconsin Central, Now being served by Canadian National. The Fox river valley as it is called is the second largest industrial hub in the state, whose prime products is the failing paper industry. During my childhood CNW, and Milwaukee Road also serviced this town. My two favorite train cars a Soo Line Box Car and a Soo Line Caboose.

I grew up in, and still spend much time in, Linden, New Jersey. On the old PRR mainline, now Amtrak and NJ Transit Northeast Corridor, and Conrail Chemical Coast Secondary. Very small yard here with one GP38-2, a caboose, and a SnoJet type ice melting machine.

I then spent 12 years in Scotch Plains, NJ. From my house I could see the old Lehigh Valley tracks that Conrail turned into the mainline going into Oak Island, Newark NJ yard. Many "Big Blue" trains everyday, with a passing siding to boot!

I now live in the hills of northwest NJ, which were criscrossed by a few, small mining railroads that brought iron ore and zinc down to.....first, the Morris Canal......and later, to the CNJ. The remains of a few furnaces/forges are in the woods around here. This is where George Washington got his cannon balls. The last mine closed in 1959, even though much ore remains and the vein is right at the surface. Conrail drills a few small industries here once a week or so.

I was just wondering where every body lives? I live in Payson AZ, its about 80 miles northeast of Pheonix. Payson sits at 5,000 feet above sea level. its about 30 degrees outside tonight. Also is there anyone in my area thats in the hobby? If so e-mail me.

Sober Island, Nova Scotia. Population about 90, with summer folks, who seem to be mainly from New Hampshire these days. Nearest RRs in Dartmouth/Halifax, and Truro, which shows that even if the Province was settled by the Scots, the English got to give out the place names!

Lancaster County , PA home of Amtrack, Conrail, NS, and fallen flags of PRR, Reading. My business is located in an old freight station just off the old PRR electrified mainline. I get to see or here several Amtracks, and N/S a day. They run about 20' behind my studio. I'm also lucky to be close to The PA State Railroad Museum, the Strasburg rr, and the Toy Train Museum all in Strasburg, PA about 20 miles ffrom my house. Though my Heart and Layout are in Anthracite Coal country, Schuylkill County about 60 miles North of here. Dave

Richardson, TX. BNSF had a derailment about 4 blocks from my house about a month ago. It was very interesting to see the real-life version of the giant hand putting the engines and cars back on the track.

If you go east out of Houston Texas on I-10 for 88 miles you'll be in Beaumont. South out of Braumont for 17 miles puts you in Port Athur. Across the street from Port Arthur puts you in GROVES, TEXAS, home of the"Almost Nothing" railroad. We are in hurricane alley.

Payson? Lots of modelers in those mountains, do you know Brian Heap from Show Low? Like 'messing' I'm in Flagstaff, got up to 40 degrees last nite (summer's com'in eventually). Nothing here but BNSF, not much food for a Ma & Pa fan. But the Grand Canyon RR is nice!
