Haven't posted for quite a while, so thought I'd send some pictures of my WS track gang interrupting traffic at Wagon Wheel Gap while they replace some worn out ties.
The "Panoramic Limited" has to use #2 track to pick up passengers today. Luckily it's the 'safe' side of the train, the other side is a 700 foot drop into South Yuba Canyon.
I've continued to work on the scene. The build0ing is now (more or less) sitting on the ground.
Life is simple - eat, drink, play with trains!

Great choice of engines, if I may say so, too! The irony is that it was a C&O design of nearly 13 years earlier.

It doesn't get much better than sitting on your own deck at the Glenora Inn in the evening, sipping some very nice wine, and watching the evening pass into night over Lake Seneca. Been doing it for a couple of years now and love every minute of it. Usually go in early October. You can also railfan the NS & Finger Lakes Railroad. Great getaway.

Hi Don! Nah Glenora wasn't built until late 1970's. Back in '78 or 79 a friend of mine and I came up from the southern tier looking to buy grapes and get some wine yeast and accidentally stumbled upon Glenora before they were "officially" open. Got invited in to taste some grape juice (green wine) that the vinter was working on. Ended up being a very informative and fun day for us. Two years later, Glenore was setting the standard for several varieties of wine in NYS. The same juice we got to sample that day. Today there are 20 wineries, most small, located on the shores of Seneca Lake many winning Gold Medals regularly in international competition. The horizon was painted using a photo I took last fall (from the parking lot of one of the wineries BTW) and is a work in progress. The hills by the lake are fairly low and rolling. Seneca Lake is 1.9 miles wide on average (3.5 miles wide at its widest) and 35 miles long (north to South). The persective here would be that the photo was being taken about 4 or 5 miles away from the horizon across the lake so there is a definate forced perspective I want to achieve. I need to work on the color of the wheat fields over there and add a couple of houses and barns......

Karl it's no wonder you have not been posting as much! That is some kind of fine work, it has been more than worth the wait to see you get it done.
You have a very big problem though, in order to keep up this level of detail and skill into a layout you would need Five lifetimes to get it anywhere near done.

That layout looks vaguely familiar. You just joined this forum this morning? Hmm...
I think the main difference between scratch building and craftsman kits is that when you scratch-build something, you know what you have in mind.
I spent more time trying to figure out what to do than doing it on this one. But the Rock Ridge Mine I've been talking about for two years is a little over half done.
This the Muir Models Tonopah Silver Mine. I have the hoist house the mine shaft, and the Mine head built. What is left is the Separator House/Ore Bin/Tipple and the Trestle back to the Mine Head.
Oh yeah. I can't stand the steel siding on the side of the Hoist House. I'm going to replace that with styene board and batton.

I always like this thread. It gets my brain working on what I need to do with my layout. Some great work here as always. I took a few more shots of the work I have been doing so here goes.....

Even a vineyard has sprung up. Unfortunately these grapes will not be made into any of that World Renowned Finger Lakes Wine as it is smack dab in the middle of Prohibition time here on the SLO&W. Just might be a small bootleg operation somewhere nearby though......;)
