Woes of getting ready for the train show
Posted by RedGrey62 on Tuesday, February 6, 2007 10:13 PM

Like any good Air Force Airman, all stories need to start with "There I was"

Well, there I was getting ready for this weekends Wichita Train Show, needing to get some "little" things done so I can run some trains on the free mo group modules.

Weathering woes:  wanted to finally get some cars weathered, started with the 2 bay covered hoppers, all is fine until the third car.  Get all the weathering chalks on it, ready to apply Model Master flat spray, half the car gets sprayed and I run out (yes, I knew it would be close).  No problem, go to Hobbytown, there out even though the computer says they have 3 cans in stock.  Supposed to be in Friday, no problem, pick up and finish before show, fingers crossed.

Detailing woes: sunshades got knocked off my Atlas GP-40, no problem, at little super glue and wah lah, oops, when I set it on its side to put it back on, accidently knocked the one on the other side off (it was okay BEFORE I started).

Loose parts woes:  Walthers caboose, can't find the smoke jack.  No problem, got another one.  Oops, this waycar needs some Kadee #5s (original equipment not going to work).  Pop out the old couplers, in with the new, HEY, where'd the brake stand go?  On hands and knees, no can find, look all over the table, no can findConfused [%-)]  Okay, its time to take a break, listen to some hockey and do the dishes.  Okay, well maybe I can check the coupler height on a couple more grain hoppers.  What's that lying next to the coupler height gauge on a completely separate table?  Oh look, its a brake stand.  I guess my paws are just too big.

Well at least the free mo modules are good, well almost.  Got to put some more ground cover down to cover the stain from where we ballasted.  And the facia needs to be painted.  And we need to ops check all the new wiring and toggles we put in.  And the track needs to be cleaned. Did I mention the train show this weekend?

Well, the hockey game is in the thrid and the dishwater has gotten cold.  But at least the one project I had planned for this evening almost got done, along with the 4 other train projects I didn't realize were waiting for me!

Sure is a good thing my wife isn't here with me, if I had to add all her projects I think I'd give up MRR altogether.

See you at the show, after all this work, I'm sitting a selling tickets!

I'm still missing a box of structures for my modular units.   The module looks really naked without the buildings.
