1. Do you know anyone who owns model trains? Yes. Quite a few people, as a matter of fact.

2. Do you own model trains? Yes.

3. Did any of your parents own model trains? Yes, though in my case, it would be "either of your parents" as I have only one of each. Dad had Lionel and American Flyer.

4. Do you or your parents still actively collect model trains? Yes.

5. What type of model train do you or your parents own? (Lionel, LGB, Atlas, etc.) Atlas, Athearn, BLI, Kato, Life-Like, Maerklin, Micro-Trains and there might be a Bachmann or two somewhere in there.

6. Do you know the significance of scale and gauge differences? As a matter of fact, I do.

7. Do you only erect your train set during certain occasions? Z is up year-round, N is a modular show layout, HO is whenever I can run on a friend's layout.

8. Did you ever think of selling or throwing away your trains? No.

9. What is your favorite make of model train? Hard to say: Atlas probably as that seems to be what I have the most of.

10. Did you receive any model trains (or set pieces) from your parents? Yes. Started with wooden Skaneateles with hook-and-eye couplers, then Dad's American Flyer, then graduated to HO.

Dear members, I am taking a survery for my high school economics class. If you will please take the time to answer this short survey, it would really help me out because I am severly limited in population because my school is very small. Any help is greatly appreciated.

1. Do you know anyone who owns model trains?

Yes.

2. Do you own model trains?

Yes, mostly narrow gauge.

3. Did any of your parents own model trains?

No.

4. Do you or your parents still actively collect model trains?

No.

5. What type of model train do you or your parents own? (Lionel, LGB, Atlas, etc.)

NA

6. Do you know the significance of scale and gauge differences?

Yes.

7. Do you only erect your train set during certain occasions?

NO!

8. Did you ever think of selling or throwing away your trains?

The only trains I threw away was some cheap AHM and Tyco stuff and a Model Power loco.

9. What is your favorite make of model train?

Since I currently model narrow gauge in both Large Scale and On30, I like Bachmann Spectrum, LGB, and several proprietary companies’ products. When I did HO (in the 70s) I liked Athern Blue-Box, MDC, and some pieces (not many) of AHM. I did not care for Tyco!

10. Did you receive any model trains (or set pieces) from your parents?

Yes. Some pre-WWII Lionel items and a huge Lionel train set with “Super O” track as a kid in the early 60s.

Funny that for this question: 4. Do you or your parents still actively collect model trains? there are a lot of NO answers.  I read it as "Do I or my parents collect model trains?", so as I do, I said yes (my parents do/did not).  But there are lots of no's showing up here, on a MR forum.  Lots of true armchair types here I guess  Big Smile [:D]

1. Do you know anyone who owns model trains?   Yes

2. Do you own model trains?   Yes

3. Did any of your parents own model trains?   My father had American Flyer, and my mother was given a standard gauge set as a child, but never used it.

4. Do you or your parents still actively collect model trains?   Yes

5. What type of model train do you or your parents own?   Mostly HO, an American Flyer collection, and a few 2 rail O pieces for display.

6. Do you know the significance of scale and gauge differences?   Yup

7. Do you only erect your train set during certain occasions?   The trains are up all year; the AF goes around the tree at Christmas.

8. Did you ever think of selling or throwing away your trains?   What? I'll never go over to the dark side!

9. What is your favorite make of model train?   Broadway Limited

10. Did you receive any model trains (or set pieces) from your parents?   Mostly AHM/Rivarossi as a kid. My father built me an HO 4x8.

1. Yes
2. Yes
3. Yes
4. Yes, G and HO Gauge
5. My Dad has HO Gauge primarily, but has an original American Flyer S Guage set he got as a child with original boxes. I've yet been allowed to see it and I'm 35 years old now. I am strictly N gauge.
6. Yes
7. I am currently building for a permanent installation. My Dad usually gets his out around Christmas when all the grandkids come out. When I was younger he promised to do something full scale when he retired, and he did so a little over a year ago. I remind him regularly hoping he'll get his collection out.
8. No, no, and never. At worst I would sell them on eBay.
9. My favorite to this day is the Rivarossi 4-8-8-4 Big Boy. The first time I got any money I bought my Dad that engine in the late 70s early 80s because he always wanted one but never got it. Best $300 I ever spent.
10. Yes, at about 5 years of age I got a Bachmann set. After running it in a circle for a bit next thing I know my father is opening boxes left and right and showing me things. Then his big steamers wouldn't go around on my circle because the wires stuck straight up and the engine cow catcher would hit it. So he got more track out, and more track out, and pretty soon we have a 4x8 layout with twin ovals on it that lasted for years. It was just track + train board and we used it for years.

8. Did you ever think of selling or throwing away your trains?  YES, but I sit in a corner until the feeling passes.

9. What is your favorite make of model train?  CON-COR, KATO, others

10. Did you receive any model trains (or set pieces) from your parents?  YES, but only after begging!
