Looking for Broadway Limited Item....
Posted by SunsetLimited on Friday, January 19, 2007 3:26 PM
Hey all, i know they are sold out but im looking for a PRR T1 Duplex, anyone have any suggestions on where i can get one? All the big stores are sold out, i was hoping someone here knew of one at a store locally or maybe even had a personal one for sale Tongue [:P] Broadway's website doesn't specify a rerun date so it could be awhile. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I have found several oop and obscure items at smaller hobby shops by using Google. The next time I am at the train shop here, I will take a look.

Trainworld has 'em. Follow this link: http://trainworld.com/broadwayltd/index.html.

Now you have to write a review when you get it. Wink [;)]

I have been looking for this engine since a missed oppertunity last summer. All of the 198's and 199's are gone. Broadway indicated to me that they dont know (If they ever) if there will ever be a re-run of this engine. I did decide to cancel the backorder on this engine but have an eye on ebay on the off chance the model numbers show up.

I think there are a few older engines out there (Distinguished by no reddish coating on top of tender). I did follow walthers email list of hobby shops that recieved a shipment from the website and after a week determined that one copy exists in Ohio but at a price way above what I am willing to pay. Two more copies were also availible I think one in Germany and the other in Canada but am unwilling to re-import engines just to get a copy.

I suspect that they wont do this engine again because it seemed that no one wanted them when they first came out and all of them suddenly vanished in a blow out sale at very good prices. Who knows... maybe someone else will do it if BLI wont make another run.

This experience only reinforces the lesson to buy a copy off retail as soon as pre-orders become accepted by the factory or you run the chance of missing out completely. If this engine does show up on the Factory Outlet, the credit card is coming out; budget be damned. LOL.

I found one,  but not a great price.  If you are interested anyway, let me know on the forum and I will email the location by the email contact on the forum.

I would have to believe they will make more in the future.

I have the first run and it is a nice model.

BLI's response to me was that they have no plans to do another run of the T1's.  He stated that it would be at least 18 months, and it could be much, much longer...if ever (last is my impression).

However, since the various larger online outlets are taking back orders, it would seem that there will come a time when it makes sense to run them again, and to announce it like they did the K4s.  I just placed an order with Caboose Hobbies for $246.00, but I may have to wait for several years. Sad [:(]

I am surprised that trainworld doesn't have any since they offer them at "sale" prices in their monthly bulletins.  Every other place that I window shop at online is merely taking reservations or orders.

I emailed you the web address and listing.  I did not realize they were all gone.  Trainworld always has them listed so it looked like they were out there.   I have purchased many of my models from them and never had a problem with them.

I dont mind waiting a few years more. I think it took me 2 years to acquire some of the engines and those were pre-ordered with a hard commitment to buy them when they finally got released.

I just would like the BLI engines to be a more steady supply as much as shipping can make it. I just wonder why we have to have them made overseas when there is alot of potential willing and motivated labor here in the usa.

I think they are very good engines that will get better once they recieve the upgrades that call for softer steam sounds (Example) when drifting.

There is a lot of talk on forums in general about the distributors not taking BLI/PCM products unless they have valid hard orders from dealers.  If this keeps up, BLI/PCM will have to lower prices or sell directly to the model trains customers.

I am aware of one very large shop that has cancelled any future orders, after being stuck again with BLI/PCM products while FDT is selling ( Blowing out) out the shelves from BLI/PCM.

Time will tell. .

TrainWorld runs sales on quite a few items that they don't have in stock and have no clue when they will receive more.  I really don't like when they do that.  They should only advertise in stock items.  Just my 2 cents.

Indeed. Both of my LHS's have already been loud and explained "KLEERLY" that they will not get BLI/PCM Products. They are willing however to get those for customers who will pay the price on the counter.

As a customer, I already adapted to the changes with a VISA card that can handle engine purchases online. I dont expect to stop buying new engines from the Hobby Shop. Just that there will be fewer engines to buy.

This BLI engine is just one of several others that have been "Blown out" by ATLAS, BLI and others over the years. When they are gone, they are gone.

I still have not heard anything coming out of the Distributors, me thinks they just shrugged it off and moved to replace the BLI product orders with something else that they know will sell.

Customers who are not happy in a time of pre-orders, blowouts and other limited availiblty of items to the point of not being able to get what they want, when they want. There is something WRONG with the hobby overall with these slash and burn type of pricing.

Let's say I have 1000 dollars ready to go today. (An example) I will buy engines with this money. But these engines (About three or 4 in total) cannot be bought because no retail copies exist at any price. Ultimately Ebay gets income and the seller gets what is left over after shipping and bidding is done with.

Dont you think that BLI, Atlas and all the other manufactors will be HAPPY to know that there is 1000 dollars in business ready to go from ONE customer but that they will NEVER see this money because they blew out all of their products and shot themselves in the foot risking pernament future unavailibility of the product.

I would hate for BLI to sit down and add up the number of people who bought a 4-4-4-4 Duplex and think there is only... 500? 1000? People in the entire hobby (How many are we anyway?) who will buy similar engines or a second run in the future? Then they think about the profit and if it is not sufficiently attractive, they nix it and we all lose out.

As you probably realize, one of the parameters of this business is to import and sell quickly so your money can pay the overhead and fund the engineering and new escrow monies for the products being made in China.

The people or person who started BLI was also the owner of Oriental, a brass importer for many years.  I think he had a great idea back about five years ago and really changed the model railroad business by bringing both sound and fairly decent affordable models of prototypes that were needed and sold right away.

Some time about two years ago or so, he was booted from the company and some short falls of cash caused the rest of the group to have the first blow out sale to raise money.  I purchased the Light Mike with sound for $129.00 at the first sale.  What a deal.  I also got the N&W A at a bargain price.   There have been at least one more sale since the first sale before the FDT deal at Christmas and I will be looking for more, since they have a lot of future items coming in next year and probably need the money.

The amount of stock on hand and the amount of future items for both BLI and PCM has to be a major cash drain again.   One way to raise money is to dump you stock on hand for a slight profit and go on.

I like their models and hope they continue to bring us good models with sound.   The latest updates from QS! are much better and worth the money.

Thanks to everyone who helped me locate a copy of this engine, i did decide to pass on it, i don't model anything close to that era and it was just a whim purchase so the address error was a good thing, instead i ordered a set of BLI AC6000's in CSX paint and some A-line hobby totes and an athearn challenger (the modern UP one of course)! Thanks again all! Smile [:)]

 Sunset Ltd,

Try eBay, I've seen several posted there. Those posted may be buy now which usually doesn't fall into "a great deal" catagory. If you check eBay over several days(weeks?) you may see one from private seller at a good price. If you go the eBay route make sure you check seller's feed back rating. Look for large number of transactions with very high feedback rating. Feedback rating is your guide as to whether the seller values your patronage.

I follow Ebay several times a week. Usually daily looking for this item. At this point in time a 200 dollar buy it now on a mint Duplex T1 will do very well.

I found a copy in Germany via walther's list of dealers that recieved this item in the past but know I will not order this and re-import it back into the states. Ohio also has a copy but they are asking like 380 for it which is more than what the LHS would charge at home.

I am examining my steam options at the moment and looking into another subsitute if the T1 Duplex is never made again. There is a Brass MTH T1 on sale right now on ebay with sound and DCC for about 1000 dollars in HO. It is way out of my ballpark and for that kind of money it better run very perfectly and have no flaw or blemish.

I am not a collector, I buy engines and run em and expect derailments, accidents etc.

Yeah, well like i said i don't really model anything close to this era so the money would not have been well spent, my two preoredered AC6000's will be a different story (if Broadway actually made enough) hopefully.

Hello........As of Thursday Jan 25 at 10:00 AM Broadway Limited had three PRR T-1's for sale. I purchased one, should have it by Jan 31. The price was $240 plus shipping. That's a 40% savings. Keep in mind these are "returned " engines but they carry the full factory warranty and have been checked over and sent with all original packaging so I'm told. I came upon this info at the recent Greatest Hobby on Tour show held in Pittsburgh by speaking directly to a factory rep named Bob Armitage. He can be reached at 386-673-8900x105 directly. This will make the fifth engine I have purchased from BLI and so far so good. I have found that Trainworld in New York has the best prices on many things. They had a T-1 for $309 listed but none on hand and backordered. One other thing--Bob did say he did not expect that engine to be re-released for another 18 months or possibly not at all. Good Luck and if your really serious about getting one, give this man a call ASAP....Ed K

Well, I guess the hunt is over for me. I have a copy on the way; should recieve it sometime next week. I am a little nervous recieving via outlet direct but BLI assures me that one year warranty is in effect. More than enough time to iron out the bugs if any.

It's quite possible that I have one of the very last copies, I am sure in the future other copies will be availible here and there but it's going to be difficult I think.

I dont think poor Bob Armitage is used to being hunted via the internet such as this thread posted here. =) The regular Outlet Direct Assistant was in communication with him and had no trouble with this particular sale. Chalk another one up for BLI with thier good internal communications.

Actually i just called Bob and bought the last one, i know i said it was an impluse but for the price and the fact that i have always wanted one, i just had to buy it. IM sure its going to be a great engine, even if it sits in a display case.

Good Fortune then, I was told there was one left and I dont think that copy had a chance to go up onto the BLI's Outlet Direct Website.

Earlier there was three copies. You got one, I got one... I wonder who got the third? Anyone?

There was also two copies involved at Indiana in the Hobby Shop there. That makes 5 engines total for this week. Not bad huh?
