Thanks....love to, but I'm without a camera at the moment.
***Sue, enjoyed both your posted photos today. ***Ed, yours too.
***Scott, does this still mean you will be visiting us here on the ol' farm? Will talk with you more via e-mail. How many miles is the drive going to be for you to McDonough?
Well, movers took care of bringing the MIL's stuff from the retirement home to the farm. The cabin is now stocked FULL, upstairs and down. It is insane! Barbara seemed about ready to find a train to run out in front of, and that was after only one morning with her mom. A manic person with early Alzeimers who is both a horder & a neat freak is a unique person to be around. This IS going to be "interesting". I'm beat and need rest. Think I'll go hide in my room now. (sorry for my rant...there could be much worse things in life)

Hey y'all!
I've got great news!
NORFOLK SOUTHERN UPDATE:
I attend training in McDonough, Georgia in two weeks! I need to be in the assigned motel on Sunday, September 16. Training starts the next day. However, I'm too young for a rental car (you have to be 21), so it looks like I will be making a 700 mile road trip. I was hoping to take the Amtrak Cresent to Atlanta and then getting a car, but that ain't gonna happen, since I would not have a ride after that. But I'm cool with driving, since that was my original plan.
On a different note now...
Tracklayer: I am sorry to hear about your unfortunate event. However, I'm not sure how far you'd get by pressing charges against the man. As far as I know, pets and animals fall under 'personal property.' And property destruction charges don't issue proper punishments. But I would definitely go to animal control, I think they would be more effective. If it were me, the dog probably would have been dead on the spot with a steel-toed boot to the side of the head...Good luck with whatever you decide to do about it. Here's hoping for ya.
I'm out y'all.
Scott - Dispatcher, Norfolk Southern
Good Morning Coffee Clubbers,
Still rainy, hot and humid down here. At least with the sun being hidden, while I still keep the a/c turned on, the compressor doesn't have to kick in as much. Don't think we'll be heading out to the orange grove for a few days more. I suspect that the access road is pretty tough going. But we're getting closer to the start of the harvest.
Tracklayer - very sorry to hear about your cat. I can only imagine how you feel. While pressing charges won't bring Tiger back, it may prevent something similar from happening in the future.
Sue - yes, we finally did the Copper Canyon trip this spring. I didn't post the photos here, but I did post a link to my thread over on TrainBoard where I have the photos and a trip report. Here's what I posted at that time. I suspect it may have passed unnoticed as I didn't include the photos here.
We've done a lot of traveling. The most recent trip was a 17 day, 4,000 km round trip to Chihuahua, mainly to ride on the train through the Copper Canyon. Even more spectacular than I expected. Photos don't do it justice. We spent part of three days on the train, and a bit more railfanning. I am gradually posting my photos over on Rail Images, and have a thread going (that I add to from day to day) chronicling the trip that you can see on TrainBoard at:
http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/showthread.php?t=87843
Paul - our daughter and son-in-law just bought some used cutting, raking and baling equipment, and have just started to cut and bale on the property they rent. We'll see how it works out, but they hope to be able to cut and bale enough so that they can stop buying hay (which has really gone up in price over the past year), and maybe even have some surplus to sell.
Dick - Man, that is quite a ride. Is that on good highways or secondary roads making account for 7.5 hours? I can drive all the way from cental Massachusetts to New Brunswick Canada and be withing 3 hours of Luc, Fergie and John in 7.5 hours!!
Okay, here's the rest of the trip report of our trip to Acultzingo. If you recall, we left the Westbound freight waiting on the siding for the approaching downhill Eastbound.
Slowing down, the Eastbound gradually pulls up to the waiting Westbound and takes the passing siding. I did take a shot of the trains passing, but at that distance everything seemed to blend in together.
With the meet over, the Westbound lost no time in accelerating up the grade. And past the camp towards the tunnel. And finishing out the trainwatching for the trip, the train had a pair of NS units as mid-train helpers. Uh, maybe not. They're actually green (with white and red) Ferrosur units, just wearing their usual coat of soot.
And that was about it for the trip. It was a great chance to get together with some of my train buddies. And except for the fuel pump and the hard rock under the tent, a fun trip.
Later,
Ed
HI ALL:
Its been a long time since ive had a chance to read some and now answer some. Had a Pacemaker placed in my back to try to help in treating some of the pain that has plagued me for so long. Lots of time in hospital and under the sheets. Two long pieces of copper wire down my spine one on each side of same, pacemaker on one side of buns and battery on the other, battery should last 9yrs that is if I live that long [LOL LOL LOL ].Seems to be yorking pretty good. Down to 30mg daily of morphene from 360mgs.
Kathy has been staying with nuns from the hosp. across the street from me. She has been getting very good care and doesn't want to go back home because I'll be taking care of her [LOL LOL LOL ] I've had a chance to watch a lot of TV, read some and look at a lot of books that the nuns bring in, and guess what they have all been RR books both real and model.
I have not had to much time to read here but i've seen some. FERGIE we both fell real bad about you and family losing dad, but I remember that you will always remember all the good times that you shared with him, and our prayers go out to you and yours. TO PHILLIP keep up the good w**k on the photos we both enjoy them..ED we wish that we could have been with you on that trip,I've not seen a real RR that looked so much like a model, or vice-versa. We are both home now and I will be down for about 3 months while all the surgury heals, and slowly be taking over all my jobs here at home to take care of Kathy meanwhile we have a housekeeper that comes in for 6hours a day to help us take of each other.
We can now get out to the rrroom because the gravel has settled and been rolled by son,so that Kathy can get her elec cart up the drive. We still plan on riping out the last of the old layout, and because of all the work that I did before surgury it will go pretty easy. Now all we have to do is agree upon a design of which I have a good idea in my head and start to put down on paper and have her help me so that she can enjoy these little toys as much as I do [she already does ] makes dam good trees too.
To all those in need we pray at friday morning mass that all will be healed, .
So for all " GOD BLESS and KEEP YOU" chuck and Kathy

Yeah, they have lots in their bone yard. When we were there we were lucky enough to visit with one of the main guys in charge of the rebuild. Their team keeps plodding alone. Money is a big factor influencing their pace. It was quite interesting to hear the history of where they find some of these relics.

Anything is possible if you do not know what you are talking about.
Mornin, coffe and a chocolate milk Zoe, Jbirds here till bout 1
The weather here's bout the same as PC's, no more to say about it.
Gotta prayer request for a family. A friend of ours 4 year old grandson [Keegan] died Wed. night after church, when his mother backed their truck over him. She thought he was still with his dad by the church. The family needs all the help they can get now to get through this.
DICK, I've not quite hit the 60-year mark yet, but doc did say I was in good shape for 75. Yes the kids do ware us out, but they keep us a little younger too.
It is sad bout the tracks being gone. They were busy when I was a kid and went from Terre Haute to St. Louis [along IL-16 from Paris on west] in the old NYC days. Now all that's left is the line from Pana into ST.Lou.
Sorry to hear of your neighbors passing. Our thoughts with the family.
ED,, I've not been around of long as some of you old timers, but I still remember the old days well.
Thanks for another round of great pics.
FLASHWAVE,, welcome to the dinner, have a cup on me. Hope you enjoy your visits here. If you want any pie, remember to bet PC in.
BILL T,, we do enjoy your visits here, especially the doughnuts. I've read some of your post on other threads and learned thing I didn't know, thanks.
PC,, Cannons are suppose to be good. I got mine at [I hate to say this] Wally World for bout $80 and it does ok, I think.
TRACKLAYER, sorry to hear bout your cat, that's a sad and unnecessary loss. You should have called the law then n there. Me I'd a shot the dog first though.
PRINTER,, I don't think I'd let that guy's teeth near me.

Mark,
We went to the Museum on our July 4th trip.
They are working on this one.
And this one was outside.
These photos were taken on the cell phone so their quality is fair at best, but they were great for reference.
If your family ever takes a trip and you are in the area, it is worth the stop.
Speaking of trips, Ed, have you ever done the Copper River Canyon trip?
Mornin'!
Wow! We are getting off to a great start on this Friday morning with clear skies and temperatures in the 50s to near 60 degrees. You couldn't ask for a better forecast for the Labor Day weekend as high pressure will dominte the weather scene. Temperatures will gradually warm as we head through Sunday and Monday. The weather should be fantastic for the US Nationals at ORP.
We had a high temperature of only 79 on Thursday. This August is now the 2nd warmerst on record with an average temperature of 80.3 degrees. The warmest August will remain in 1936 with an average reading of 80.5. We will probably finish in 3rd place after a high today of only 80 degrees. This month will also finish with below normal rainfall marking the 5th month in a row for Indy wih below normal precipitation.
A look ahead indicates hot and more humid weather returning for the first half of next week. There will be a weather system approaching by the middle of next week which could produce our next chance of showers and thunderstrorms by Thursday or Friday.
Have a great and safe weekend!
Tracklayer, I've got to say that I'm with the others when it comes to pursuing this. I'm not the sue-happy type, but this is something that will probably escalate one day if it's not taken care of. I'm sorry for your loss though.
BTW, I also second the others on you stopping by more often!
Oh, and Rob, thanks for the tip on the camera info!
Good morning.
More rain on tap for today with a high of 88.
Tracklayer: If it was me, I'd bury the guy under a pile of charges so deep he'd feel like he was back in the stone age. Stand up for your rights and show the guy you mean business. Does your area have a leash law? If so, why was the dog off it's leash? Some years ago, I had to shoot two dogs that were doing their best to kill a six year old boy, so I have no love for aggressive dogs or their (many times) equally aggressive owners.Today's Weather for: Sundown, LA 71446-6114 8/31/2007 Heat Index: 78°FHumidity: 92%Dew Point: 71°F So Far TodayHigh: 76°FLow: 73°FRain: 0.00"Rain Rate: 0.00"/hGust: 7mph N Today High: 88 Mostly cloudy with a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Good morning everyone, well, here it is the last day of August and meteorologically speaking, the last day of Summer.
TRACKLAYER: Welcome to the Diner, I am sorry to hear of your loss, unfortunately, the world has no shortage of fools and idiots that are either high on drugs, booze, or excessive testosterone levels. I echo what Fergie has said. This guy is dangerous, and his dog is even more dangerous because as Fergie said, the next time it might be a child that gets mauled, or worse. Then you will be saying to yourself, "why didn't I"...DO IT!!! And please visit the Diner my friend, this is a place to talk about MRR and share what we do and have a vitual coffee with friends from all over the world.

Tracklayer,
Sorry to hear about your beloved cat. You might want to also contact the local SPCA and any other animal rights groups in your area and tell them your full story. Typically they have the power to report any instances of blatant animal abuse to the proper authorities if they find foul play, and that seems to be the case with your incident. I have always had animals in my life, including at any given time any number of dogs, cats, birds, fish, rabbits, ducks, and amphibians. From my experience with other dog owners in various neighborhoods who abused their pets I can tell you that they will defend their stance to the bitter end, so be prepared mentally. Also, just like Fergie mentioned, that dog just might attack another being, animal, or human such as a little unsuspecting child the next time. The dog needs to be properly yard fenced or put down if it continues to exhibit bad temper.
Oh, Chole, I'll have some fresh brewed coffee and a fresh pastry too!
Cheers,
Ryan

Just a tall glass of cool water. Couldn't sleep, thinking of all ahead to do today.
***Tracklayer, wish I had some good suggestions for you, but I'm still fighting with myself daily not to do something about a particular bastar* that would change my own life irrevocably and do nothing to keep all those 4-legged companions still under my care healthy and content. I believe our justice system is totally broken when it comes to dealing with such sickos, but it doesn't mean it isn't still worth pursuing. Perhaps someone else here can offer some helpful suggestions!?! My deepest sympathies for your loss and the aggrevation of the situation.
***Philip, I have always been a Canon fan. Look up cnet. for some helpful reviews. The site usually offers very sound advice.
Will check in later if I don't collapse from exhaustion or blow a gasket in my brain.

Well first off... Welcome you should come in more often as it's cosy here.
Secondly. Yes you should press charges, why ? because these punks figuire it's their right to go through life and do what they darn well feel like. If his mutt has killed once it will do it again, who knows another cat, dog, child?
What occurred was abusive and against the law. This is not vengence on your part but standing up for your and everyone elses rights. That's where freedom starts.
THank you

If one could roll back the hands of time... They would be waiting for the next train into the future. A. H. Francey 1921-2007
This past Wednesday evening, my beautiful 14 year old male gray and black striped white chested and white socked tabby cat Tiger was mauled to death by my neighbor's dog while on a leash in my front yard. When I confronted the guy down the road that owns the dog about it he flew into a rage and opened my truck door and invited me to step out and discuss it... I'm 43 years old and in ill health. He's 32 years old and into body building and kick boxing. Little did he know that I had my 9mm pistol under my right leg the entire time... Anyways, the cat was my best friend in the world, and I can't begin to tell you how much I miss him. It was so hard seeing him dead like that. It did something to me. I've been walking around in a fog ever since. I thought about pressing charges on the guy, but it wouldn't bring the cat back. I just pray that God gets even with the guy and his dog for what they did... Thanks for listening.

First off..........
To the NEWBI'S
I'll even roll out the red carpet!
Chloe and Zoe are your virtual waitresses and they can get you anything you like!
Now, for the main reason of my visit this evening........
I've recently found myself without a camera. I've been looking into a new one and I think I found one....but since you guys are so good with them, I thought I'd ask to see what you think. Here's what I'm thinking of.
Whaddya think?
Evening Gang: We hauled more hay today. After we took a long lunch break we went back to it. Just as we had picked up a couple of bales it started to rain. We got the bales to the lot and unloaded and headed for the house. I wasn't too wet but Mary Ann got soaked. That ended the hauling for the day.
I'd better head for bed before I fall asleep at the keyboard.
Good Night All

Good evening, just got back from a wake...our long time neighbor passed away after being hospitalized for a year with Parkinsons......they built their house in 1965 and we in 1967, I coached two of his sons in Little League. He was a Lt Commander in the Navy (retired). Only three of us now remain of the original 25 families, some moved away others passed on to that RR in the sky.

Well, Trains mag came today, so I'm going to sit and relax on this warm night with a Coconut Rum coke and enjoy some reading pleasure.
