Had a big woods fire at the spillway earlier today that involved about ten acres. Our guys put it down in record time. There were spots that couldn't be gotten at easily so Forestry was called to bring a dozer and plow a fire line all the way around it. Even if it flares up again, it won't be going anywhere.

What a parade in Boston this noontime for the Red Sox.........there must have been near 1 million people ......the players and their families were all in the Duck Boats that are used for tours of the city for visitors and they can go right from land onto the Charles River as well.

JEFF, your native son, John Papelbon did Louisianna prowd, New England loves that guy, he could run for Mayor of Boston and win.

SUE: And your home state lad was equally a hero with the people, Jacoby Ellsbury, the girls all wanted to marry him, many had signs that read " marry me Jacoby".

MARK: Your home state was represented by J.D. Drew, he was overwhelmed by the crowd and the cheering. He is so laid-back and shy, that when the vehicles pulled away from Fenway Park and he got sight of the emmense crowd and the roar and cheers, well lets say he never expected it and was beyond belief.

There were people there from all over the country as well as Japan, this was trully a "Red Sox Nation" event. The owners also had many of the old time players there like Johnnie Pesky of the old Red Sox team of the '40's who played with Ted Williams.

ED: I wish you could have seen this on TV...mayve ESPN or FOX will carry it.

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! Rob - the link is http://www.trains.com/mrr/default.aspx?c=tp&id=93 -  it's basically the header box that reads model railroader above the page here and then highlight interactive and click on track plans. That will bring up the archive of plans. Good luck  J.R.

And yes there's always next year. I still can't believe the Mets collapsed so completely in the end. Still amazin' after all these years.

I've been busy working on locos most of the afternoon, cutting decals and applying them. Once in a while that became a sticky situation and some of them were so small the only way to handle them was with tweezers. Can you imagine someone with numb hands using tweezers? Yeah, it was rather funny to see. Luckily my neighbors son came over to help. He took over the tweezers and placed the decals exactly where I told him to. Sure made the work go faster.

***Jeffrey, may I borrow that neighbor to apply all the details to a Kato Mike for me? It has been sitting there naked/without sinse I bought it. One day when I can manage a trip to the nearest hobby shop (nothing is "local" from our farm) I'll pay someone there to install all those tiny parts. Same with that new Kato diesel I added recently.

Hope everyone is doing well. Cowboy [C):-)] Rob

I know what you mean. I found out what 'The devil is in the details' means when I got a Kato RSC-2. I added the details I could manage. Handrails, number boards, brake wheel. The rest got pitched into the junk box.

Jeff, you're talking HO, Rob's talking about adding teeny tiny steam details to an N scale medium sized loco.  Rob, been there, done that!  It's a pain, huh?  I just get a big caserole pan and work over it......with a good light!

Evening Gang: Well we're in for the next 3 years making payments. Actually we get it finalized tomorrow. I called around and got prices from $34,500 to $38,000 on the same tractor. By by MRR money.

I guess I'll head for bed now.

HI Paul,

just curious, what make and size of tractor and what condition is it in?  I know that the loader size tractors are quite expensive even used and the bigger ones are dirt cheap.  Sure hope that somehow you can manage some money for the MRR.

Take care

Yes, Dick, my friend Ron will be excited about the Red Sox when I see him.  I am sure he will still be talking about the series.

Ryan,  Thanks for the list.  I may copy that.  We have some castings of benches with tools & junk on them.   That will be a good start.

I will check in on Thursday.  Tomorrow evening is the rockgym.  Have  a good day.

Evening, Diners - just a cup before I head back home for the night, please, Chloe. Thanks!

Ryan, thanks for posting that list - I'd agree with Sue, it was very helpful. Do you have the manufacturer(s) of some of those detail parts (tool box, the shop tools like the lathe/milling machine/etc.)? And do they also make the detail parts in HO? I know some of the things on your list (compressor, tool box, etc.) are in J&L Innovative's catalog, but some of the rest I don't know...

Paul, I hope you'll still be able to make LHS trips, but congratulations on the new tractor. Will you be posting a photo of what it looks like? How long until you'll know anything on the Shell-IRS fiasco, by the way?

Dick, Ed, and JP - C O N G R A T S ! on the Red Sox sweep! They did a bang-up job there. Thumbs Up [tup]

Hope everyone has a good  All Hallow's Eve tomorrow. Smile [:)]

***Jim, did I miss something or is there another Rob here in the Diner? (my birthday was Oct 7 and I don't know what that list of parts you're refering to is?Confused [%-)])

Been scanning old slides & photos into the computer tonight. Even scanning 4 at a time, it still takes a long time. Patience is not one of my strong points. Found some old train pics. Not sure if they are worth sharing though, not the best of photos.

Also started working over our horse website. What that bastar* did to the horses we sold him and his getting away with it has been eating at my soul ever since. So, I am going to devote our horse site to warning the public about him.

Wife thinks she had a good interview. Now we just wait to hear back from them. I didn't know there were so few Flight Nurses across the country. It is a prestigeous job among nurses. Hope she gets hired. Cowboy [C):-)] Rob

Evening folks-just coffee for me (which I don't need I guess-early day tomorrow & need my zzz's)

Been moving heavy appliances here from my fiance's old trailer (dryer yesterday, washer today, upright freezer tomorrow.) But that's good in a sense-once things are in place in the basement here, I can hopefully get started on doing measuring, getting ideas on dimensions of the future layout, which I'm awful itchy to get started doing things with.

Rob-what's the link to your horse website? My fiance' worked at an Arabian stable outside of Burbank Ohio for about 6-7 years. They raised & trained, & had some serious high $$ horses living there. She still likes to stay up with things so to speak.

Ok, just dropping in to say "hey"-nite all!

Good Morning All,

Dark and cold this morning don't have any other info just now except that it's not raining. I'll have a regular and one of Bills' donuts - the burnt coconut looks mighty good.

Spent more time on the iNpossible scale buildings, I'm probably another day away from having something that resembles a building enough to shoot. Fitting the Grandt line window is a bit fiddly but if I keep carving they eventually drop in. Just need to try to keep the cuts parallal with the sides of the buildings so the stuff doesn't end up crooked.I'll try to get back in to catch up posts, see you all later, J.R.

Morning folks!

Cup of Southern Pecan coffee for me today! Oh....and Chloe....I'll have it in Rob's Southern mug!

Ben had a Fall Concert at school last night with the Heritage Middle School band and it was their best sounding concert to date! The band director really raised the bar on them this time around and it showed. Bravo Ben! Thumbs Up [tup] Thumbs Up [tup]

Mike - Thanks for the happy birthenday wishes! I'm now 46 years and counting....

Wow! Only three doors down from Jamie's house and live action rail....nice! Big Smile [:D]

Mark - Sorry you lost the soccer game, but like you said, next year starts up a new season of play.

Jerry - Glad to hear the chair is fixed now! Smile [:)]

Dick - sounds like a real celebration down in Boston yesterday.

Sue - You are welcome! The list was primarily obtained from a couple hours pouring over the Walther's 2008 HO catalog and then placing an order with my LHS.

Good Morning, Diners! I'll have some scrambled eggs, toast and coffee, please - oh yeah, and a glass of Ed's OJ, too! Thanks, Zoe.

Rob, my bad - the list was by Ryan, and I must have been having some nightmare (on Elm St.?) about whoever has a birthday today (or they were telling a joke?). Do you want to celebrate your birthday again today? I can ask Zoe and the cook to whip up a cake for you, if so. Wink [;)]

Not much new on my MRR'ing, except I'm figuring from a list our LHS owner/club member sent me, what items on sale I want to buy. Looks like several of the Walthers modulars are on sale (walls, doors, fire escapes, etc.), plus some CMW vehicles (trucks mostly). But payday's another week away...Hmmm....

Time for me to pack it on out the door. See everyone later!

Lookin' nice 'round here today!  Highs should top out in the upper 60's to near 70 degrees.

Too bad I'll be cooped up in my windowless office again........on the other hand, at least I have an office.  I should practice being more thankful for the job I have!

HAPPY HOLLOWEEN, EVERYONE!

Here's a story........

This is AWESOME....something we should all remember.

A 92-year-old, petite, well-poised and proud man, who is fully dressed each morning by eight o'clock, with his hair fashionably combed and shaved perfectly, even though he is legally blind, moved to a nursing home today.  His wife of 70 years recently passed away, making the move necessary.  After many hours of waiting patiently in the lobby of the nursing home, he smiled sweetly when told his room was ready.

As he maneuvered his walker to the elevator, I provided a visual description of his tiny room, including the eyelet sheets that had been hung on his window.

"I love it," he stated with the enthusiasm of an eight-year-old having just been presented with a new puppy.

"Mr. Jones, you haven't seen the room; just wait."

"That doesn't have anything to do with it," he replied.

"Happiness is something you decide on ahead of time.  Whether I like my room or not doesn't depend on how the furniture is arranged, it's how I arrange my mind.  I already decided to love it.  It's a decision I make every morning when I wake up.  I have a choice: I can spend the day in bed recounting the difficulty I have with the parts of my body that no longer work, or get out of bed and be thankful for the ones that do.   Each day is a gift, and as long as my eyes open, I'll focus on the new day and all the happy memories I've stored away.  Just for this time in my life.  Old age is like a bank account.  You withdraw from what you've put in.  So, my advice to you would be to deposit a lot of happiness in the bank account of memories!  Thank you for your part in filling my Memory Bank.  I am still depositing."

Remember the five simple rules to be happy:

1. Free your heart from hatred.
2. Free your mind from worries.
3. Live simply.
4. Give more.
5. Expect less.

Pass this message to 7 people except me.  You will receive a miracle tomorrow.

Now, STOP!  Did you hear what I just said?  You WILL receive a miracle tomorrow.  So send it right now!

Have a nice day, unless you already have other plans.

Morning all.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Did I hear talk of lathes and milling machines?

Good times... Good times. When I was 6 my grandad let me use both to drill holes in brass for our Erector Drawbridge so we could have handrails. Today, that unfinished bascule bridge sits up in his shop. (The bascule part is, the extra non lifting part isn't.) It's been sitting there unused for 4 or 5 years now.

Well, looks like it's s****l time.

Hi Zoe - a cup of coffee and some of those candycorn pumpkins from the plastic jack-o-lantern, please. Mmmm, sugar rush! Smile [:)]Big Smile [:D]

Jerry, you have a great start on the buildings - I especially like the left hand one of the pair up front. If you did the 'grouting' between the bricks on the right-hand building and then maybe a light black wash on both fronts, you might be about done (Just my My 2 cents [2c]). Thumbs Up [tup]

Ryan - you're the B I R T H D A Y   B O Y today! Sorry I got you mixed up with Rob. And your list looks good. I had seen Canyon Creek (? or was it California Details something...) had some plaster or resin long workbenches (unfinished) that I was eyeing to get.
