Chow time, think I'll have a greasy cheeseburger, fries, and a chocolate shake Zoe.
Got a nice day after all, had a few showers during the night, but we've had sun bout all day, temps at 73 with a light S. wind and a chance of rain moving back in later this evening. Tomorrow has best chance, with even a thunder storm or two thrown in.
Got some playtime in on the layout in, and made a little progress. Also got the photos from Metcalf loaded onto rail images, I post some of them laters. Still got the ones from Villa grove to do. Even had time for some chores inside and out.
GARRY, glad you made it back ok, wish your trip had been better though.
PC, ,, I thought Amtrak was still running trains on the Cincinnati to Chicago run through Indy.
Need to get back ta some chores if I want anymore playtime.

Jim, those taco's look good! I think I'll go mexican too, but I'll have the nacho's. Thanks Zoe! And can you make sure this goes on Colby's tab please? Thanks!
Good (mid-)morning, Zoe. I see a lot of the crew has been in since yesterday. I'll have a Dr. Pepper and couple of those tacos, please.
Fergie, good to see you in again - and good to hear that the (first) construction project is pretty much done. It seems like drapery rods (and fastening them securely to the wall) are a problem for a lot of people I've heard from. You'd think they would know to put a good section of wood up there to sink the screws into when fastening them, but that's not always the case. If you can time it right, the sun room will be done for spring, and your new deck for the summer grilling. Hey, let us know when the barbeque will be, okay? Hope you get things done so your Dad can be all moved in soon.
Garry, welcome back. Hope things start getting better for you now that you're back home. On the fiber topic, I understand that whole wheat bread (or rolls, etc.) is also good in fiber.
Sue, you sound pretty busy there. I'd agree with the others that you do good work on your rocks. Is that because of lots of practice on earlier layout(s)? I'm sure it helps that you two are able to work together - gets things done sooner, I'm sure!
If I doze off in the booth today, I have cause. I'm on backup this week, and got (unexpectedly) called out at 4:15 this morning (and haven't been back to bed since). At least I get paid extra for that. Now, if I can stay awake at work until I get home and go to bed before Sue's usual bedtime, instead of my usual lately... Huh? Wha'? Hey, you stay away there, Hoople! Aaaagggh! Water balloons (and cold ones)! Thanks for the towels, Zoe.
Had a good time last night with some friends at Panera's. I had my dinner before most of them arrived, so I got to just visit and drink my soda (and then decaf coffee) the rest of the time we were there.
On the layout, I'm going to be putting Kadees in a D&RGW caboose (older Athearn one, with the plastic pin for the horn-hook couplers. Will need to see if I need to take the pin out and replace it with a screw instead. I'm going to see about just installing Kadees on all of my rolling stock that still has the horn-hook kind on them. I also was making a list of possible vehicles I want to see about ordering over the next few paychecks (as the $$ is available) for the layout. Anyone that you all know of, who makes Ford vehicles (besides Athearn who makes those F150 trucks now)?
Well, back to the work. I managed to stay awake through CPR training/refresher this morning, so have that done for another year. See everyone later!
Blessings,
Jim (Uh? oh yeah!) in Cape Girardeau

Good morning everyone, today should be the last day of cold weather this season here in central New England........it got down to the teens last night but now we have a warm up period coming for at least the next two weeks. That will take us to April, and with the stronger sun......well, you get the picture.
Looking at the layout benchwork last night, I decided that the hinge-up gate was not going to work to my liking. I have 2" of foam on top of 3/4" plywood, so that means I had to remove about 4" of foam at the hinge end to allow the gate to swing up past 90 degrees. I don't like it at all. So I am going to go with a hinge DOWN gate, which will allow me to keep the foam base base across the entire bridgeway. So today we convert the hinge UP to a hinge DOWN and replace some foam.
HEARTLAND: A new study just came out stating that coffeee is a good source of fiber, so you are saved. But don't ask me where the fiber is ........unless of course you eat the coffee grounds . LOL
DER JOHN: Those rocks look great, you have found the formula!!!! Now lock it up in a safe in the bank of Canada.
Time to get going......see you guys at lunch

I managed to push myself and got the tempera ( not tempura ) done last night. No work to be done on the layout today due to work and an evening at the rock gym. However, Thursday I will start adding some color to the rocks. Who knows, I might get it finished over the weekend.
Stay out of trouble.
Sue
Anything is possible if you do not know what you are talking about.
Mornin'!
Just a quick drop in!
Philip, those eggs look great! Chloe, I'll have what Philip is having, yum!
Hope everyone is well and safe and may the lord be with you all today!
I've been busy working on another article for a new online modeling website.

So,.....Colby's buying, huh? Good, 'cause I'm hungry!
How about eggs over easy, hash browns, and some chicken fried steak? Thanks Chloe! Yeah, that goes on Colby's bill!

Here's a link to that plastic I'm using: http://www.diyhomecenter.com/products/building_supplies/flashing/duraflash/detail.aspx?iid=10021 . I ordered on line and in a few days it was on my doorstep.
Sue, Yeah, I know what it means to be held up by turnouts. I'm using Micro Engineering code 70 turnouts for the class 1 RR and Atlas code 55 for the shortline. The Micro Engineering turnouts can be a little difficult to come by sometimes. Yeah, I feel your pain.
Colby, I like snow! Always wanted to go to Alaska!
BTW, inch, good pics yesterday! We don't get any of those Amtrak trains around here, so that was kinda cool to see.
So, school work on deck for today after work. Got LOTS to do! I know, sounds fun, huh? If you'd like, you can share in the fun! I'll send you some of my work! All you have to do is ask and its all yours!

Good Morning All,
That eclair Bill left looks too good to pass up - that and a coffee please Zoe.
Welcome back Fergie and Garry. Glad to hear the addition is coming along Fergie and at least you're back amoung friends Garry.
Der - for nearly invisible scale a 0000 brush should be just about coarse enough to do wide swaths, no?
Another busy day so I need to get to it. CUL, J.R.

Thanks, Jim, for the treat. Your contribution to the diet looks best today.
Dick, I am an early to bed, early to rise kinda person. If I am up past 9:00, I have no idea what time it is. We went on daylight savings time early this year. Did everyone else do that?
JR, On our first layout, I did plaster cloth. The geodesic foam go so much faster and is easy to change as it sets up. You have about 30 minutes working time.
Philip, I know the turnout problem. We tried to use #8s almost everywhere. We used Walthers until everyone was out of stock. When Peco came out with #8s we snapped them up because we could get live frogs. Larry wired all the turnouts that weren't live. Now that took some time. He has the patience of Jobe.
Cox, Yes, we are a team. My climbing is the main thing that is not completely joint. He goes down to the rock gym with me sometimes, but it not as important in his mind as mine.
Inch, Larry calls them Oat Sodas. Great photos. Thanks for sharing.
der, Thanks. I painted the Gesso(primer) this morning, and if I get a spurt of energy, I will do the Tempera(black wash) tonight.
Well, it is 8:00, so I probably should have some dinner. The cinnamon rolls are not staying with me.

It caught all the slush and crud, and eventually the coil burnt out. I fixed it, but it was a really poor design feature.

The Fiat 850 Sport Spyder was a rear engined car. Here's one for sale on Ebay right now (lovely shade of electric lime green if you ask me): http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1972-FIAT-850-SPORT-SPIDER-2ND-OWNER-STOCK-SEATTLE-NR_W0QQitemZ190093200596QQcategoryZ6218QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I've got the link to the website on my work computer. I'll post it in the morning, OK? Oh, and I goofed....it's only 20 inches tall. It ought to work great though, and it's pretty cheap! Alot cheaper then most backdrop material.
Good evening people: Spring is officially here, so we had snow today to welcome it....
Sue: Those rock castings look elegant, can’t wait to see them stained up! Judging by the other rocks you’ve shown us, they will be spectacular!
Jeff:
There was also an unpatched rib side Wisconsin Central boxcar, about 50 - 60' in length.
Trent and Duke: As you know, our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Fergie: Thanks for dropping by, as you know folks were wondering how you were doing. That sure is an extensive reno you’ve got going there!
Dick: .I never had a class called "Social Studies"........is this a hybrid of what us old timers called ( had in school in the 40's and 50's ) Geography and History seperately??…as far as I’ve been able to piece it together from the very scant data that seeps out of our grandkids…yes, that would be about it.
.I never had a class called "Social Studies"........is this a hybrid of what us old timers called ( had in school in the 40's and 50's ) Geography and History seperately??
Been busy with staining rocks, and have most of those around the viaduct area done. (most, because I forgot the few castings that are on the module where the main part of the viaduct sits .
Now I’ve begun filling in the ground colour (it’s a greenish brown that looks quite like vegetation, especially when it’s on the rough textured sawdust mix. Getting the dilution right, so it goes on easily, but not so thin that it runs over the rocks by mistake is the tricky bit. The wicking up to the rocks is working out quite well, but I have to use a smaller brush for that, to get the accuracy needed.
Back to work.. Goodnight all, and God Bless. Prayers for all in need of healing, comfort and peace.
"There are always alternatives, Captain" - Spock.
Evening , I'll have a barley pop dear,
Had an ok day here, sun most the day and temps got up close to 60. Only had J Bird for about an hour, then I spent most the day outside working. Rain coming in tonight and hanging round for the next 4 to 5 days, but at least the temps are suppose to stay up in the 50's or so
TRENT, hang in there buddy, know it's rough. There's always somebody round to listen and maybe help, even here.
DUKE, we're keeping ya'll in our thoughts.
JIM CG, I might see anything coming through here. Today a coal train came through, had some old Rio GRANDE, Santa Fe, SP, BN and L&N, along with the CR. Of course, here I set at home with no wheels, so no pics.
FERGIE, good to hear from you again, and glad the remodel project is slowly coming to an end. Guess you'll be looking forward to some sea duty for the quiet.
These are some pics I got up at the Mattoon yard last week, first is a CN awaiting orders for the Decatur track.
next is a of some flat cars loaded for bridge repair [I think]
Next is a N. bound Amtrak coming through the yard and then looking towards the station
Think I'll go play awhile, catch ya'll laters
Evening Gang:
Dick: I'd say that some folks are focused on themselves too much. They will use any platform to express there views even if they are not germain to the topic.
Sue: Yes.
Fergie: Good to hear from you. I kind of figured that you were tied up with the remodeling building.
Well I've got to get going. Mary Ann needs help with moving some stuff.

Good afternoon everyone, temp has risen to 36F on this clear day, so melting is in full swing.
ATTABOY: Yes, my post of yesterday got pulled by the monitors. My thread originally stated that the new owner of LGB did not obtain the finances that he needed, so he has the company up for sale. That was statement one. Anyone see anything political about that? No, I don't either. The second statement was something to the effect that we "could" see additional buy-outs or mergers.
Well apparently, that led some people to get very political in their replies, while others actually brought religion into the act....don't ask me how, I don't get it either. I think some people really need to get out in the real world more often and get a life!! I received an email from Trains folks informing me that they had to pull the topic because it had gotten too political. I don't blame them at all for pulling the topic, that is the only way to stop some people from going "off the wall".

Morning all.
Dick, looks like your thread on the main forum was deleted. I went to see what the fuss was about and couldn't find it as far back as page 4 on 3/18/07.
Trent, in addition to the other good advice you received, remember you do not have to go through it alone. There are people available to help you and depression can often be treated. If you can't afford to pay, since mental health issues are often not covered by insurance, free clinics are availble most places.
Oops, break was over ten minutes ago, gotta run.

PHIL: I finally got to read the comments in the main thread at midnight , I had to straighten out some of the kids who got way off target and started to turn their soldering irons on each other. It never ceases to amaze me how easy it is for some of the members to get so distracted and de-focused on "any" subject dealing with the hobby. One minute comments are all germaine to the topic, the next minute we have world politics, religion, ones MIL, the snowplow driver, the next door neighbor, all entered into the thread....LOL
Today I need to work on a kit.......no...not a MRR kit, but a saw mill , scratch built, for my 5th grade grandson who is helping me after school. It is a class project for Social Studies. Later
Good Morning, Zoe. I'd like a stack of those strawberry-topped pancakes like Jeff's having, but maybe only 1/2 or 2/3rds as tall. If I ate that many, I'd be dozing off at w**k today.
And since it looks like I'm buying breakfast today, I also brought in some cinnamon rolls to go with the donuts Bill brought. Also, Zoe's starting up a batch of waffles for those who'd like those.
Zoe, track my damages and I'll be back in later to settle up.
Going to be warmer here today - it's 54 already, and supposed to only go up to 61 (F) today, with some rain forecasted-guessed. Humidity is at 72 percent, with a Northeast wind at about 6 mph. Not raining just yet, though.
Hope today doesn't go as long as yesterday at (the W place, Paul...) - it was so busy with people at walk-in that it was after 3 p.m. before I got to one of our local police stations to assess a person there. Finally finished that one and headed for home around 6 p.m. (and had my lunch & dinner then). But I finished up the rest of my Stroganoff I'd fixed over the weekend, so not a lot of preparation time for that.
Tonight after work, some of us from our church's singles small group are getting together (to eat or just for fellowship and kicking back) at a local Panera's Bread restaurant. Something to look forward to.
In 'train news', I started looking in my Walthers catalog for possible autos, trucks and delivery vans for my layout. Seems like (other than Athearn) there aren't nearly as many companies making Fords or Chryslers as there are making good Chevy vehicles. Which I don't mind (I think I've mostly driven Chevy products since I got my license), but I figure I should have some variety in the cars. I do think when I build the Wallenschlager Motors kit that I have, I'll make it a Chevy dealership (that, or a used car dealer). (Not trying to start any flame wars here!) (Definitely don't want to start a topic asking about car choices out in the general forums!)
'bout time for me to get going - hope our Northeasterners get dug out from under that snow you got!
Blessings and peace in your week,
Jim in Cape Girardeau
