Hi guys,

Still just hangin' around. I guess I'm on a wild ride on the emotional rollercoaster. A good day can turn sour in an instant. Not all that great lately.

For those that haven't been informed, I'm still grieving the loss of my wife almost 7 weeks ago. This may explain some of the stange posts. I'm so glad for family, good friends at the club, work and here at the forum. I hope to get my desire to get back into my modeling soon. So many projects just sitting on the workbench. My nerves and lack of concentration has really put a damper on trains for now.

There's many scenery projects still to do at the club. Hopefully I'll be able to jump back in the swing of things- many are depending on me can't let them down.

This area needs the bridge abutments and the scenery under the bridge (marshy spot w/ an abandoned ROW and old derelict abutment. Note the gauntlet trackage under the plate girder.

This spot, nicknamed "cardboard mountain" is on it's way to getting the remaining trees and finishing touches. The rock cut is 12' long and done w/ the Cripplebush rubber rocks.

The contours of this area are not finalized yet, hence the loose cardboard strips.

Another member is doing a great job with this spot, he fabricated the forms for the concrete abutments and has already covered the foam.

Now in this shot, the benchwork and trackwork crews are a bit ahead of of me, you think? The return tracks in the forground are only temporary, the remaining 3 legs are still to be built (60 more feet of room)

I do have some work cut out for me, will keep you posted on any progress with the layout and also with me.

Just lurking for now,

Evening Gang: Not much going on. We worked on getting a place cleaned up for Mary Ann's storage container. I only had time to check my Pantone color book for the matching paint for the diesel frame. Actually I think that the paint is here it needs to be shaken up good. I'll take it to Lowes tomorrow and see if they will put it in the shaker for about 10 minutes.

Well Daisy the dog wants to go out and I have to put the out side dogs up also.

Good Night All

Alex: I'm going to be sending Colby some steel power-Loc track soon. You might ask him if you can have some of it. I'm sending thirty pieces of 18" radius curves. There's a kid in Michigan who's getting some stuff from me too, four Bachmann FT A's. They all run, but need some work, but hey, he's not worried about that. They're free!

Hey guys!

Just got back from some evening fishing. There's a falls just down the road from my house (Colby, you know the one I mean, right?) and the trout were going nuts! every 3 or 4 seconds you could see 'em jumping. Sadly, I didn't catch anthing, mostly because of my VERY limited bait and lure "collection".  Sorry for not posting in a LOOONG time. Anyways. Colby probably told you that he and I went to a "local" (1 1/4 hour drive) train show, and loaded up. I got some track, 2 switches, miscellanious track pieces and bumpers, also some switch controllers, and Colby very nicely treated me to my first track cleaning car, and some rail joiners and insulaters. (Thanks a bunch Colby!) We both got some valuable information about layouts, too. Speaking of which, my dad recently bought some plywood and 2x4s and I'm hoping to get the scraps, for my new train table. If I get them, I should have the table done in a week (I hope). Colby, I like the pics espescially the yard. It sure has changed alot since I last saw it.

A Forestry truck? Good, that means they won't be afraid to bend it a bit. We got ours from Forestry and put $6,000 into rebuilding it and fitting it out. The engine needed quite a bit of work. It's a Chevrolet V8 diesel that sounds like it could pull the world. One thing we made sure to put on it is a 16,000 lb Warn winch. So far, we've had to use the winch to pull other trucks out of the mud, never our brush truck. It was a bit of a trick to get 12 volt equipment to work on the 24 volt system. The military seems to set their systems up a little differently.

Good evening gents, making progress with outside work so that I can get back to train room. I called the LHS owner today to see what he wanted regarding the 2-10-2.....it was to inform me that if I paid by cash, or check, he would, knock off another $10 because of what he would save  over using a credit card......no problem with that.

JEFF: My son told me it was a Forestry truck, it is 4x4, brush guards, etc. It carries hose, pump packs, equipment for fighting brush and woodland fires. It has a pump, and a drop box for pumping from marshes, streams, ponds etc,. It is replacing some old '60's piece that cannot get parts for any longer, and a beast to maintain.

CAPE JIM: As you can read above, the LHS ? was a non issue, I couldn't imagine what he wanted. Has the weather settled down in your area yet?

FERGIE: Snow Flurries huh........have no fear, a heat wave is headed your way, you will be in shorts and T shirts tomorrow. As for GW, we may have gone beyond the point of no return for what we as humans can correct in time to stop the impending problem.

RYAN: You were on the cold side of the HIGH...that is about to change big time, so you won't have more 40's in the morning to contend with. That Tropical Depression off the Georgia/So Carolina coast bears watching though, the HIGH is going to block the system from moving north, and cause it to back into the coastline and actually move inland. You may get some rain and winds from this soon.

Oh    R-e-a-l-l-y? We had snow flurries here this morning (Oh Joy) Anyway by the time I fly home I'll be wearing shorts and sporting a beer and a set of tongs and adding to global carbon stocks with the BBQ!

I'll have to order bark mulch as soon as possible so I can start getting the garden ready.

Some numbers I got today

Ocean gives off 100 Giga tonnes of carbon a year and takes in 102 Giga tonnes. Man creates 6 Giga tonnes a year. So we are adding 4 Giga tonnes to the environment annually more than the planet can handle. Thes numbers don't include all the other crap we hurl at mother nature either.

Anyway it's din din

Hello everybody...

Thanks for kind thoughts regarding my sister in law in Michigan.  Shelley talked with her sister last night, and her sister is still getting transfusions and tests.

I had a lot of non-mrr stuff to do this morning but now it's down to the train room.  I'll ignore the beautiful weather outside.

I posted a couple more pix on the oldest model locomotive thread to include my "museum" if you're interested.  The remains of Grand Dad's 1920's modeling is on my display shelf.

Well time to hustle my caboose.

Happy model railroading !

Sign - Ditto [#ditto] Phillip - Thoughts and prayers are on the daily prayer list!

I did get an email from John asking about my wife's cousins Kyle and Kathleen, so I also wanted to let you all know the latest. Kyle as attended three therapy sessions and is doing much better, Kathleen has been to two sessions and is feeling much better now about the whole situation. Monique spoke with Kathleen and still, her spirits are not 100%, but she is much better now!

Thanks again for all the prayers sent their way the past month or so, it really does work wonders!

Fergie, feels nice to heading back to port don't it! Especially after that many days at sea!

Dick, what happened to spring? We went back to winter already, low was 42 degrees this morning.

Cheers,

I hope they're getting one that's true four wheel drive and that they won't be afraid to bend a bit. Many depts here went and got expensive 4 x 2 flatbeds and mounted a tank and pump on it. They seldom get them out into the woods because they keep getting stuck. Sundown acquired an ole military surplus army Cut V and installed a 175 gallon tank and a 250 GPM pump, along with assorted fire fighting gear. It isn't pretty, but it works! We've taken that thing places a Jeep wouldn't go and haven't gotten it stuck once!

Good afternoon to all, it is another beautuful day here, the temp is 73F and headed for 80F, the May Flies are pesty as usual unless the wind is blowing. This morning it was the dentist at 9 for a fitting for a partial bridge ( no trains on this bridge ), then over to my son #3's house to watch the mini-excavator rip huge oak stumps out of the ground.....I am amased at what this little monster can do.

Now, it is time for me to get outside and finish the planting and spread the bark mulch.

FERGIE: Welcome back to port......the weather should be fine. How long will you be in port?

PC: Right back at you Phil, I feel the very same way, and remember you guys each night also.

JEFF: At the Annual Town Meeting last night, a new truck was approved for forest/brush fires, I thought that it might cause some discussion, but the guys did a great job with their presentation.

Time to get outside , see you guys at supper table..

Well we're 150nm out and the Alco's are just a purring! Got the second enine assembled last night and looks better than the first!!

Today I pack it all away as we will be in about 2200 hrs tonight providing the weather holds out. Well that's it.

Dick: I'll take a look at iit when I get home . There was another lecture on Labrador Sea currents last nigh and man it was pretty intense, Unfortunately the couch I was sitting on was too comfotable and with this being th end of the trip and all  think I may have done my own mid-Atlantic Drift. The jist of the lecture was the composition of the Labrador and european currents and how they have been changing as of late. It's not pretty! The data thqt has been used to determined is from the Hudson and several other research vessels.

Anyway must run and do time sheets for the boys!!!

Mornin' All!

Now that I'm all settled in and have my groove on, thought I'd pop in and say hello.

Oh hi Chloe!  I'll have the hamsteak and eggs....thanks!

It's looking pretty nice outside right now................

but it looks like that'll change later on this week.

Well, I've got one more class till summer break!  I am taking this summer off for a change.  I've had no breaks for 3 1/2 years, gone to class EVERY week, no Christmas break, no weeks in the summer off, nothing, for all that time.  Now it's time for a summer off.  I'll head back in the fall.  I'm kind of psyched about it really.

BTW, I probably don't say this enough, but I do remember all of you every day in my prayers.  Each of you has in some way impacted my life, and I want you all to know that means a lot to me.  Your friendship is important to me, and I thank God every day for you all.  I pray that those prayers find you well, or give you comfort in your times of trials.  I don't want to get all sappy or anything, but I wanted you all to know that.

So what are you all up to today?  I'm hoping to get some time to stop by a friends house tonight to talk trains.  He's in that Horribly Oversized scale, but I don't hold it against him.  So whats up with you?

  Good mornin', all.

Went to another niece's event this weekend down in Zionsville, home of Watts Train Shop. We didn't get a chance to stop by though, as the church she goes to is brand new and we took the 2 dollar tour. It has a Coffee Shop inside, I am NOT joking! We stopped at the Starbucks across the interstate and treated ourselves and then we went in the church and they have a shop inside! Not a Starbucks, but it smelled just as good. Niece Mallory was baptised by her dad, Todd, and it was pretty neat. That was followed by alot of good music and a real good sermon. Amyjo saw I didn't have my glasses on and said "Oh look, the sermon is 'How Men Are Weird' !" Turned out to be WIRED. She got a pretty big laugh out of it.

We went to their house afterwards for a get together, Todd is building a "caboose" playhouse for his girls, and he asked if I wanted to help. He has it framed up but no siding on it yet. I told him  I definitely would help, and started to ask questions. About the time I got to Wide Vision or Bay Window his eyes glazed over and he realized what a huge mistake he had made. Just behind his house is an abandoned B&O line, so I think we will go with their scheme, or maybe an NKP/NW scheme because Amyjo's dad worked for them.

Somehow I picked up a horrible sorethroat last week, have'nt beaten it yet, so today we just sat outside in the sun.

PAUL- Sorry to hear about your equine friend. We don't realize just how much a part of our lives they become, do we?

GMTracing- you asked if I had any pics of the Korber Auto Plant, and I thought "Wait a minute, it wasn't sold as an Auto Plant. It took some serious recalling to remember that it was sold as the Campbell's Soup Plant. I used it as a model of the Muncie Chevy Plant due to it's resemblance to it. As for pictures, I picked up a real nice digital for Amy and myself last year, and after fighting with it for about 3 months, she carrys it with her and I use her old 35MM point and shoot. I just never compensated for the delay from pushing the button to the pic. Sure did get alot of really close to good shots with it! When I get it repaired, I will ask my punkin to snap a shot of it, if you still want one. Of course, getting that picture loaded on to this site is a whole 'nother matter! I would have done much much better back in '68. 1868, that is.Cowboy [C):-)]

To be honest, it took me 4-5 minutes to get this into colored text and about as long to get it back out. Guess I should do something about the italics, too. Ahhhh, and now I see it isn't back to black, but instead a pleasing navy blue. Oh welllllll.

Sooner or later I'll march proudly into the 20th Century.

Everybody take care, and we will check back later!   S

Evening Gang: Not much today. I got the last part of the front yard mowed. There is one area that has a lot of trees and other obstructions that has to be mowed with the push mower. I got some work done on the locomotive I got the transmission off and the battery. Of course the battery was shot so we had to make a trip to town for another. I did some rust removel and tried some cold galve spray to see how it was going to work. Tonight I went looking for the paint that I used for the frame and couldn't find it. I'll have to look up the color and get some mixed up. The trouble is that the place I get the paint is in Arlington by Six Flags. That's a 45 min drive one way. The good thing is that they have my paint on file so no problem getting it right.

Gerry: I hope that your SIL is going to be all right. I know that this is a hard time for your family.

Well I guess I'll head for bed.

Good evening to all.....another busy day under these clear skies. Many yards of bark mulch to spread, shrubs and flowers to plant, etc. Then tonight, it is the Annual Town Meeting where we try to keep the budget and therefore our real estate taxes, under some semblance of control.

I got a call from my LHS informing me that the 2-10-2 has arrived, that was fast..only 6 days. He wants me to call him first before I come....now I wonder what that means??? Any ideas guys??

FERGIE: That is very interesting info regarding CO2 and the what the oceans can and cannot handle. I sent you the BBC documentary on this, if you do not have it when you get home let me know and I will resend it.

MIKE: Nice job as usual with the train photos......I think that CSX was in my town a few weeks ago, the number looks familiar.

GARRY: Prayers for your SIL...the fact that transfusions are not working sounds like a bleeding ulcer. We certainly hope that she responds to treatment.

Time to run, town meeting calls..

since Fergmiester  is buying I'll have one of those giant sandwiches that jeff had few days ago. You know the one that could feed 20 people? I'll have it with a glass of sprite.

Good Afternoon All

Well we're homeward bound and have another 330nm to go before we make landfall in St John's. Weatehr looks good for between now and arrival so it's all down hill and going home revs!

Dick: I talked to one of the scientists today regarding the carbon thing and this is what I picked up. Water cold takes in and stores carbon, warms up and frees up and off gases carbon over all the Ocean takes in more than it gives off. We unfortunately give off more than the Oceans can handle. I believe the figures he gave me was in Giga tons. It comes down to this it's a delicate balance and we have a tendency to screw it up big time!

Anyway I gotta run as it's supper not a favourite but it's food!
