Train vendor
Posted by jondrd on Tuesday, December 19, 2006 4:40 AM

Anyone on forum ever have any dealings with Factory Direct Trains? Received out of the blue eMail that had post Christmas sale on BLI, PCM and very limited Intermountain.

Something about ad solicitation makes me wonder if this vendor isn't another entity under BLI corporate umbrella.

Thanks for any insight from forum,

             Jon

I had one too but not sure where they got my address.  I never have been to any website with that domain name.   The only train emails I get to that account are from Internet Trains, Kalmbach and Walthers.  Me thinks someone sold a mailing list

Do it on "Paypal"  --  then you are reasonably well protected.

If they refuse to accept "Paypal"  --  start getting suspicious.

Unless something is new with BLI, theirs is Outlet Direct, and not Outlet Direct Trains.  They may have a mailing list at Outlet Direct, but I would have declined to flood my inbox with such types of information, so I don't recall if they do mail-outs electronically.  To make sure I am safe, I always access Outlet Direct, which updates their holdings every second Friday, from BLI's website using their direct link.

Anyone ever check to see if Factory Direct Trains has a web presence?

There's also an ad in the January, 2007, MR on page 41.

They're in Asheville, NC.

They're coming out with a New Haven I-5 4-6-4 in collaboration with BLI (which is also going to do the I-5 in brass). http://www.factorydirecttrains.com/+FDT-Hybrid-New-Haven-I5-4-6-4,-HO-c3267.html

It's really kind of hard to support your local hobby shop when the nearest hobby shop that's worth the name is a 150 mile roundtrip.

Their solicitation looked too well done to be a scam. And the tie with the recently announced BLI brass hudson streamliners made me think BLI may have spun off another entity. I know about BLI's Outlet Direct but like BLI begat PCM I thought maybe Outlet Direct had begat the entity in question.
