GOOD DEALS!
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, December 5, 2006 5:53 PM

This has probably been done before but...

Whats a few of the best deals you came across on a locomotive or rolling stock (any scale)?

for me it was an Atlas Geep 40 for $10 (and it runs!) and an Atlas Cyndrical hopper for $3 1/2.

Hmm... at the moment I'd have to say my Mehano Mogul for $30... although I'm scoping out ebay and (if all goes well) I'll pick up a Rivarossi Pacific for $28 shipped....

reminds me of my friend Steve. He picked up Key Brass Imports bigboy #4020. He keeps braging that he got it for 500, and he says that today it's worth about 3500. (only 50 of them made.)

Brass SD40-2 painted BC Rail, $50 at LHS.  Would not do curves but only required new universals.

So the money I saved I spent on making it a CP Rail unit.

Smile [:)]The best deal I ever got was when a mrr friend bought 16 Athearn box cars at a yard sale for $17.  He decided that they didn't fit in with his layout time and offered them to me for the price he paid.  A few were missing a door but they all had KD couplers and some were weathered well.  The yard sale was near my house and I didn't even know about it.  It pays to have good friends.Angel [angel]

I was looking for 10 modern auto racks to fill out my limited roster that I was planning, and I thought it might take months to find and purchase them all, but at a show in town last year, a dentist was selling his entire brand new set that he only ran once at a club through a friend of his. I purchased all 10 Walthers modern autoracks with steel wheels and Kadee couplers for $20 Canadian each. WOW! The entire roster in one place and at half price of retail! I immediatly went and bought some lotto tickets as well, to no avail. Oh well, still running the racks though!

Yeah, I got one of those deals too. I assumed since it was a Gold that it had sound - NOT.  Really got ripped off on that deal.

Walthers HO Budd passenger cars for $19.98 instead of the $34.00+  they usually go for.

The guy you bought it from must've taken the sound out. All Atlas Master Gold Series engines come with Sound and DCC.

Bachmann Spectrum Heavy 4-8-2 Mountain from Micro-Mark, of all places, for $77.50.    List is $200, most discounters are about $170.

Picked up MDC cars for 75% off and Atlas cars for 50% off the other day.  That wasn't bad I thought.

Two Spectrum K-4's - forty bucks for the two of them.

The second was really more of a throw-in, as it didn't run right. Upon closer inspection, it had obviously taken the Newtonian Route from the layout to the floor. A little TLC with the siderods and they've both run like tops ever sinceThumbs Up [tup].

Spectrum 2-8-0 with Soundtrax-$65; Spectrum 2-10-0 with Soundtrax-$74. I was quite happy with each of these locos.

How about releases 1-8 of the Walthers Great Circus Train for only $20 for the whole lot? It was at the small railroad shop in Ely, NV (Not a Nevada Northern gift shop)

From eBay, I have yet to pay more than $60 for an N scale locomotive.

Also, I got a few pieces of rolling stock fom an eBay seller who lives just 20 minutes away...I was also able to buy a bunch of reefer cars for $5 each!

That is what I thought, but no the very first Gold Series did not have sound.  The way to tell is the box they come in.  The ones with sound come in an oversize black box, the Master Gold units in a normal red and black Atlas box do not have sound in them.
