A cab ride over Donners Pass, Cajon Pass or Tehachapi Pass would be greatly accepted. At least one of the three. In fact any cab ride would be a great experience.

I recently helped a local narrow gage museum lay real track. It was backbeaking and some of the hardest work I've done in my life! The only thing better would be riding in their steam loco (when rebuilt in a few years.)

A cab ride on in a Class 1 would be second. A factory tour would be the last thing on my list.

Unfair question. What railroad modeler would not want to ride in a real engine, steam or diesel??? It has to be the ultimate perspective to running your trains.

Give me the cab ride in a old Loco mainly a GP-38 dash 2 or geep -40 no db just riding the rails down south in the summertime of course

Hell Yes! Cab ride would come first! Now if it could only be steam! I have been lucky enough to have been in the cab of NKP 765, a narrow gauge shay, and a 2' steamer. No! I was incorrect! I was in the cab of a standard gauge shay, and a broad gauge 765!

The cab ride for me. While I'm sure the factory tour would be interesting, but I'm in this hobby because I love trains. My biggest thrill was riding the cab in steam engine for an hour on a Southern steam excursion 25 years ago. I'm ready to go again.

No doubt about it, I'ld much rather be the co-pilot on a 767 than go on the tour or ride in the locomotive.

I was lucky! I was able to ride in a locomotive back in the late 60's and was alound to work the controals scear to death at the time. but would love to do it again. It was Southren in Alex. Va

Being a former roundhouse worker and conductor on the Soo Line, I will opt for the factory tour. Had more than my share of "cab" rides in my life, and then some.

I live less than 1/2 mile for an from a BNSF automobile yard they have 2 old switchers. i would ride one of them in a heart beat. if i could in a ride in a big locomotive it would be a dream come true.

It's no contest--cab ride. After spending a year working as a train dispatcher and having to ride the cabs to become terrirtory-qualified there is nothing like being in the cab. I worked for a transit rr and the division I was on had approximately 30 miles of running with station stops every couple of miles. Then it was another 50 or so miles of rural running with only 5 or 6 stops. It definitely has changed my perspective and has given me a much greater respect for the power of trains.

I have had the luxury of a ride in a cab once in a shunting yard for a couple of hours. I would have been about 8 in the late 60's.

I would prefer to ride in a locomotive cab for a day on a class one track, too. Only problem is that there are no steam locomotives on which I could ride, correct? Therefore I would take the tour of a model producing factory.

a few years ago i was able to rent for $200.00 AN HOUR a steamtrain at Chattanoga tenn. for the chance of a lifetime.it was my bad luck that my movie camera broke.i dont think they do that anymore thats my adventure ted m.

This is sort of like asking whether one wants apples or oranges in his fruit salad. I've done both, and they are in no way comparable. With my back to the wall, however, I'd take the cab ride.

Would definitely take the cab ride. Would perfer to do it in the cab of a Norfolk and Western Class "A" but, would settle on a Diesel going over the Shenandoah Division today.[:)]

This is such a tease. Can you get a cab ride? Isn't this why we model? So we can pretend we are in the cab. I know quite a few people that would die happy if they could ride in the cab for a day.

Unless you are a retired Railroad Engineer and have had your fill of being in a Locomotive Cab, the CAB RIDE IS THE OBIVIOUS CHOICE. of course a Steam Locomotive would even be better, but you had better expect to get DIRTY shoveling coal or just oily surfaces in Oil fired locomotive. A Diesel would be relatively clean, but not as much action, but still I WOULD NOT PASS UP. Especially if on a Local, where switching was involved, where you could really get the feel of operation.

Sign me up for the loco ride; any will do. However, the dream trip woud be GG-1 thru the Horseshoe curve! Unfortunately, not gonna happen.
