Couplers
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, November 23, 2006 3:44 PM

I want to install Kadee couplers on my HO engines and rolling stock. I did a search and found an old thread that discussed it pretty well.

I have an Athearn EMD SW 1500. On the forum, one guy said he used #5 couplers on almost all his Athearn engines. On the Kadee site a #38 coupler is recommended for this engine. Which one should I use ? Maybe either of them will work?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

                    Thanks,

The problem with 5s on Athearns is the chassis carries power so you can end up with a short circuit between engines. Some guys get away with it but it is better to use on of the plastic shank Kadees.
