I use all disiels in my fleet. Had 1 stem engine but itis broken now

derailment? what derailment? All reports of derailments are lies. Their are no derailments within a hundreed miles of here.

I have a large amount of both steam and diesel, but the only electrics I have are two Amtrak metroliners. I don't have a catenary on my layout, so they stay on my shelves.

for those of you that selected diesel, if you are using GE, Alco, EMD, Baldwin, should have selected diesel electric as traction motors are used. I don't know of any locomotives where diesels actually power the wheels/trucks.

I model electric and diesel-electric (two traction lines in the late 40's, during their conversion from trolley to GE 44 and 70 tonners.)

It seems like the "combination" choices would vary widely in number: lots of people model steam and some sort of diesel power--diesel and electric would be rarer. not sure if anyone out there models steam and electric but not diesel, though technically John Allen did...

Why do you seperate diesel and diesel electric? The common diesels (EMD, ALCO, GE) are ALL diesel electrics. The diesel engine turns a generator or alternator which makes electricity which powers traction motors. SP had those German built diesels which powered the wheels through a hydrolic transmission of some sort, but the typical diesel IS a diesel electric.

I grew up in the diesel era, have only seen steam on excursions, and then only at yard speed. I'd rather hear an old Alco or early diesel engine ping and hum.

I voted diesel but since I have a couple Burlington Route steamers, I may use one as a switcher at the branch mine or run the occassional steam excursion. We'll see . . .

Well, not *solely* electric--as I mentioned above, I model electric lines but during an era when they were converting from electric to diesel--thus I voted for a combo of two methods. Heck, if I find room to squeeze in the bits of WP track, I might even model three, as WP still used a few steam locos in the late Forties.
