Norfolk Southern hump yard slugs

Hey guys I am considering building a slug unit to run with my Athearn  NS SD38.  The slug unit I want to model is #974 it is a RPU6 designation on NS it is a former CR MT-6. I believe these units were originally Alco RSD-12's or RSD-15's. i could use any advice on how to go about doing this! what is a good starting point?
