Trainworld
Posted by Nataraj on Saturday, October 28, 2006 1:58 PM
I called trainworld, asking if they had any kato amtrak bi-level cars. They asked for a product number. But, the kato part of their web site was last updated in 2002. ( It says on the bottom. ) They lady then said she couldn't help me.

Any help??

My Trainworld story:

I ordered a set of Life-Like P1K subway trains.  I placed the order about dinner time on Wednesday from my house in Bedford, Mass, in the Boston burbs.  The trains were on my doorstep Friday afternoon.  Just standard UPS shipping.  I was shocked and awed.

Yes, Trainworld is very quick sending things out.  But, as Nataraj found out, customer service is pretty limited.  If you don't give them a stock #, they're lost...

Since I live 10 miles away from them, I hit Trainworld/Trainland for instant gratification...  Big Smile [:D]

The downside in getting my stuff right then and there?  The New York State 8.25% sales tax.  Tongue [:P]

I've had two experiences with trainworld/trainland. One time I was very impresed, second time I was not impressed and wouldn't order from them. I called to find out if they had a Proto 1000 CNW RDCs and they lady asked me to order something or stop wasting her time. After that I won't order anything from them. If I do order online I go through MB Klein.

I find it hard to belive that BLI  DMIR RSD15's with SOUND are going for a mere $130.00?

A few weeks ago I scored an NYC J1e Hudson with DCC and Quantum sound from BLI for $129 at Trainland.  Even with the local sales tax it was a heckuva deal.  They do have some great items at insanely good  prices yep..

I have been happy with trainworld, fast shipping and the prices cant be beat. They do have a very limited selection though as online retailers go.

Oh I think customer service there is fine, a couple years ago they still had some ertl flatcars for some reason after they were long gone elsewhere, while on the phone she asked if I wanted some boxcars too, they were soposed to be gone long ago but I guess they found a case in the back but not enough to advertise.

I've ordered from them many times and always got quick, reliable delivery.

And yeah, they're not precisely warm and fuzzy. But is it rude? What some take as rude and snotty can also simply be a direct, to-the-point attitude. As a (now expatriate) New Yorker I often find that people think I'm being rude when I'm simply trying to cut to the chase and get something done. To me, saying something like "are you going to order or not?" isn't really rude so much as no-nonsense -- particularly if you're calling a number set aside for orders.

And that is also part of my experience with them. Customer service is far better if you call their direct (718) number then if you call the toll-free number (which, in all fairness, they clearly say is for sales only). They're not precisely chatty even then, but I've always gotten answers to my eustions without any attitude.

In the end, if saving a few bucks by not having everyone call the 800# with '20 questions' helps them keep costs down, it's fine by me...

Get over it. Lighten up. Of course, they need a product number, they are not a manufacturer but a sales organization. I have ordered many times and been completely satisfied. The initial post to this thread requires no response as it makes no accusations or takes no position and only reports the occurrence of a phone call. Like so many, it is a reason to make a post and has no need of resolve.

I love Trainworld. They have awesome prices and pretty good customer service. The only thing that I would change is their e-mails....it would be nice if they were written with more thought and time put into them. It would also be nice if they put a "Hello...." at the beginning, and a "Sincerely, Trainworld" at the end. Here is a reply that I got from them yesterday after I asked them if they had a couple items in-stock.....

"SORRY NOT IN STOCK , NOT IF OR WHEN THEY WILL BE IN "

Come on, a second grader could write a better sentence than that. Took me a while to figure out what they were trying to say in that last part of the email.
