Tortoise switch machines
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, October 3, 2006 10:03 AM

I'm planning an On3 shelf layout and need to know how much clearance I need for a Tortoise switch machine under the roadbed. I have not been able to find any specs on the tortoise and would appreciate it if someone could measure one they have.

Thanks,

Dennis

I measured the height of the Tortoise at just under 3 1/4 inches, which includes the height of the connector/soldering tabs that stick out of the end of the unit. You will need additional clearance if you mount a Hare or use a connector for wiring the Tortoise.

With a little work you can mount the Tortoise on its side and the clearance is 2 1/2 inches (as per the Tortoise bulletin).

You can find the Tortoise manual and bulletins at

Thanks, that's exactly what I was looking for.
