Decoder-Pro programming
Posted by Woody Woodpecker on Wednesday, September 6, 2006 8:44 PM

Hi all,

Am using all Lenz DCC equipment.

Do all my programming on a programming track as per the book.

Using DecoderPro I have programed some thirty locomotives successfully.

Just recently when I have tried to programme three new locos I could sit them individually on the programming track for up to two hours and in no-way could I get the locomotives to respond.

One is fittted with a Lenz decoder the other two with Digitrax.

Anyone out there with suggestions as to just what might be wrong.

I sure hope so,

Woody Woodpecker

I'm not real familiar with how Lenz handles programming tracks, but I can give you some general ideas to get you started:

- Double-check that your programming track is still electrically connected properly.  No loose connections or switches to throw?  Does the Lenz set have to be switched to any kind of programming mode?

- Be sure the programming track and the wheels on the locos to be programmed are clean to insure that you get a good electrical connection to the loco (and therefore the decoder).

- Speaking of which, do the locos run okay using the default address (or whatever address has been previously set)?

- Try reading back one or two of those thirty-some previously programmed locos to verify proper operation of your programming track.

- If all else fails, post in the JMRI Yahoo! group (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/jmriusers/)  making sure to provide specifics about your Lenz equipment, the type of decoders, specific error messages you may receive, etc.

HTH,
Steve
