Blew my Power Pack!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by Magnum019 on Monday, September 4, 2006 5:57 PM
I was recently trying to wire up parts of track with a staging area ( live peco's) - using (DC) and have a tech II that needs a transistor and so I was using a 30 yr old tyco power pack to test track; had about 18 feet and staging area all hooked up and seemed to be working fine-------------until--engine quit, went back to power pack (1amp) and of course.......Smoking.................Question is this, did I possibly hook/wire up (electrofrog pecos) in my staging area incorrectly (they were all isolated) or to much track for this old Tyco power pack...............HELP..................

Not too much track. A 1 Amp power pack should easily power 3 newer locos. Loss of Tyco power pack no big deal. you can pick one up at a train show for practically nothing. Power packs  usually shut down when they detect a short & come back on when it's corrected. Probably just died. take all locos from the track & using an ohmeter check for a short. Just to be sure you could wire  1 Amp fuse in series with your track leads.  I smoked a MRC 20 2 times for no reason.  Good Luck jerry
